The Kammerakademie Potsdam and the conductor Antonello Manacorda have already been honoured with an ECHO Klassik as Ensemble of the Year for the recording of all Schubert symphonies.

The second major project has immediately followed - great composer and Schubert's contemporary: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.
The two releases of the 1 + 4 Symphony as well as the 3 + 5 were already very positively received by critics:" […] chief conductor Antonello Manacorda plays out the advantages of historically informed music making.
Not only the warmly primed, discreetly roughened […] sound of the […] orchestra turn our Mendelssohn […] image upside down: Manacorda also designs with great attention to detail. He builds phrases with mastery and tared the overall sound, in addition he possesses an infallible feeling for temporal relations. Everything breathes here, the music is constantly in flux, […] [a] largely perfect picture. " (Concerti)

The penultimate recording of this great cycle is the Symphony No. 2 "Lobgesang", which was actually composed as a symphony cantata for soli (soprano and tenor), choir and orchestra in 1840 by Mendelssohn.
The symphony, which had already achieved tremendous success during the composer's lifetime and became one of Mendelssohn's most performed works, is particularly interesting due to the mixture of symphony and cantata, in which Mendelssohn contrasts not just an instrumental and vocal / lyrical part (bible quotations) but musically connects them together and unites them into a great symphony.

The vocal passages are impressively taken over by the two sopranos Maria Bengtsson and Johanna Winkel as well as the tenor Pavol Breslik and the NDR Chor.
