Rhythmize Heartstrings is a top album with a perfect combination of rhythmic percussion instruments and lyrical melody instruments. The timbre of percussion instrument foregrounds itself upon the background of beautiful and affecting melody. As a red thread runs through pearls, the melody, like the thread, is linear, describing and expressing feelings, while rhythms, like pearls, dot the melody, highlighting the characteristics of the melody and make it more brilliant. The six original tracks are wholly composed for percussion instruments, which show the musical concept of this album. In order to comprehensively embody the rhythmic charm of the percussion instrument, great consideration has been given to the selection of pieces. This album assembles pieces with various rhythmic characteristics concerning different themes, such as Earth and Sunshine expressing great vitality, lively and jocose piece the Hare and the Tortoise, colorful Gorgeous Rosy Clouds, and mysterious and unconventionally graceful Ksana Namas (Sanskrit, means Ancient Buddhist Temple and Namaskar). Ten brilliant pieces contribute to a rich and diverse musical album. The magnificent opening piece War Drumbeats in Red Cliff draws its material from the well-known Red Cliff War, taking place during the period of Three Kingdoms. Chinese percussion instruments with the accompaniment of Pi-pa vividly exhibit the glorious scene of embattling, the extremely tense prewar atmosphere and the fierce and overwhelming battling. The deep sound and low frequency of Chinese bass drum vitalizes the incomparable vigor and formidable force of the war, while the dense Pi-pa performance is breath-taking. The richness and diversity of music is attributed to complex instrumentation. More than 40 kinds of instruments contribute to the single track, Sing for Boundless Traveling, most of which are percussion instruments of particular timbres. The composer's polished arrangement makes the percussions and melodic instruments exquisitely and beautifully woven together, introducing to us indescribable beauty. National distinguished musicians contributed their excellence to make this album Rhythmize Heartstrings perfect. All the ethnic musical instruments are performed by ethnic musicians, fully preserving the original ethnic flavor. Western instruments are performed by outstanding musicians from Chinese National Symphony Orchestra, and Chinese traditional instruments by senior teachers from Central Conservatory of Music. Moreover, the Chyn (a Chinese 7-stringes zither) in the piece Ksana Namas was made in Song Dynasty with a history of a thousand years, and it is an heirloom of the accomplished performer Zhao Jiazhen. The heavenly timbre of this ancient Chyn vividly presents to us a picture of solemn and mysterious temple with grace and glamour.
