    This album pairs "Latin Goes Ska" and "The Birth of Ska," two essential works in the history of ska. Leader Tommy McCook was a saxophonist who returned to the United States after a stint in jazz. His influence is evident throughout the album, with sophisticated horn arrangements and jazzy improvisations seamlessly blended with the upbeat, flowing Latin groove. This cross-cultural blend truly demonstrates the richness of the ska genre. Furthermore, this album features the talented members of the Skatalites.     "The Birth of Ska"
    The next album, "The Birth of Ska," is another important release from Treasure Isle. As the title suggests, this compilation album captures the early energy and excitement of the budding ska genre. It features recordings from 1962 to 1964, a period when Jamaica was newly independent from Britain and the country was filled with newfound confidence. It combines the distinctive offbeat rhythms (rhythms that emphasize the offbeat) with American R&B, jazz, and Caribbean traditional music. For example, there are a number of classic performances that still get your heart racing today, such as Justin Hines & The Dominoes' signature song "Carry Go Bring Come" and the Skatalites' instrumental "Hog In A Cocoa. "
