Star oboist Albrecht Mayer was praised by the press for his successful Baroque album »Tesori d'Italia«: »What makes Albrecht Mayer's musical treasures, tonal beauty and technical mastery so precious in these five treasures, is hard to beat.« (FonoForum). Now he presents his new recording Longing for Paradise, recorded with the Bamberger Symphoniker. The theme is the musical processing of war and the longing for paradise in a world sinking into chaos. Shortly after the end of the Second World War, Richard Strauss (1864-1949) wrote his only oboe concerto, one of the most demanding works in all oboe literature, and seems to forget all the raving about the world; it is, as Mayer raves, "a piece of beauties and perhaps a hunch about paradise." The program is complemented by Edward Elgar's (1857-1934) Soliloquy, part of a fragmentary suite for oboe and orchestra, the only surviving sentence of which could be presented to the public in 1967 in a completed version, an exploratory revision by Maurice Ravels (1875-1937 ) famous Le Tombeau de Couperin for oboe and orchestra as well as an unknown masterpiece by Eugène Goossens (1893-1962). With this album, Mayer proves once more his flair for thematically sophisticated programs: »We are seeing composers who were looking to imagine a more beautiful world. They dreamed of paradise."
