Bien que paradant en tête des meilleurs électroniciens actuels, ne guère attendre de Juan de Guillebon la formule gagnée d’avance, le confort hédoniste ou le bis repetita de ses précédents tubes (Fantasy, Steel Life, She’s bad). DyE ne raisonne qu’en fonction d’un état d’esprit, d’une envie soudaine. Bien sûr, et c’est toujours le cas sur Inside Out, la passion funk de Juan réapparait souvent (et qui s’en plaindra ?), mais, comme à l’accoutumée, le musicien ne gravite jamais dans les mêmes sphères que ses précédents travaux.

Hier, DyE alternait le chaud et le froid, sensualité et torpeur inquiétante, inclinaison romantique et lendemains qui déchantent. Inside Out, lui, ressemble bien plus à un songe éveillé, à un moment d’accalmie dont la seule fonction serait de revigorer l’auditeur. Moins Joakim et Egyptian Lover qu’un croisement entre Moon Safari et de brefs sursauts New Order (Turquoise Days, avec Benjamin Diamond, est un plausible Bizarre Love Triangle pour 2018), ce nouveau DyE entremêle synth-pop, new wave et courtes façades clubbing, sauf que la plénitude sonore remplace aujourd’hui les dualités d’antan. Juan se fait plaisir. C’est communicatif.

La principale beauté d’Inside Out se trouve ici : au lieu d’accentuer sa facette dark, Juan de Guillebon propose à son public (et, nous l’espérons, à un panel encore plus large) un disque qui fait du bien, un album qui s’écoute avec un grand sourire de satisfaction au visage. Pour débuter 2018, nous avions effectivement besoin d’une collection de chansons (de tubes ?) ramenant l’electro à diverses possibilités cathartiques. Cathartiques mais bénéfiques. Il ne s’agit évidemment pas de danser comme si le monde n’existait plus, mais de s’octroyer un moment d’intimité gorgé de groove et de pépites adolescentes. Savoir à nouveau profiter des petits plaisirs de l’existence. Premier beau disque de l’année.
