Folk / Classical / World Music / Overtone Singing

Michael Vetter, avantgarde composer who collaborated with Stockhausen in the sixties, Zen buddhist, meditation teacher and musician was a master of various musical instruments, including his voice. He was outstanding in singing with overtones which, however, for him were only one step on the "Way of the Voice", a way of meditation.

German multi-disciplinarian Michael Vetter exploring the magical musical tapestry of overtones through the use of voice and Tambura (the Indian instrument responsible for the drone). Popular throughout the Mongolian steppe, overtone singing, too western ears at least, still sounds completely alien and otherworldly and Vetter's exploration here is a great introduction to some of the more complex vocal techniques.
