This new Rocket Girl album collects the various remixes and rearrangements Ulrich Schnauss has been commissioned for between 2003 and 2008. Perhaps more than a regular compilation of this nature, Missing Deadlines actually plays out rather like a self-contained Schnauss long-player that happens to feature a starry list of guest contributors. The assembled artists include: A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Howling Bells, Aus, Rachel Goswell, Lunz, Asobi Seksu and Mojave 3, and each one seems to melt seamlessly into Schnauss' instantly recognisable electronic shoegaze sound-world. All Ulrich's production signatures seem to be evident - the warm, analogue synths, blurry reverb vapour trails and clattering drums each seem to be in full effect, helping to amp up productions like The Dragons' 'Remembrance' to billowing extremities, while earlier examples of this producer's craft reveal a cleaner, more consummately electronic feel, as on I'm Not A Gun's 'Make Sense And Loose'. Along with great pop moments like A Sunny Day In Glasgow's 'Ghost In The Graveyard' and Howling Bells' 'Setting Sun', one of the clearest standouts here has to be the Mojave 3 track, 'Bluebird Of Happiness', propping up the end of the tracklist with a ten minute epic of acoustic, semi-ambient spacerock. A fine collection, and moreover, an excellent album in its own right.
