Certains vont rester interloqués de découvrir ici les noms de Joe Grass et de François Lafontaine aux côtés du sax ténor le plus sérieux du Québec mais leur intégration dans ce contexte jazz si particulier fonctionne à fond. Rieu fait mieux que jeter un pont imaginaire entre l’Occident et l’Orient, c’est comme une passerelle de cordages qui tangue au-dessus du vide dans des espaces inconnus mais tout en groovant vraiment. Vous aurez compris que Da Li n’a rien à voir avec le grand peintre excentrique et moustachu. C’est le nom d’une ville du Yunnan séparée de Montréal par 12 heures de décalage et 5000 ans d’histoire. Rieu a fait plus de 10 tournées en Chine et a réalisé là-bas des enregistrements de musiques traditionnelles qui s’imbriquent maintenant à ses propres compositions urbaines.
