Digitally remastered two-fer containing a pair of albums from the R&B/Jazz artist on one disc: You're the Best (1982) and 'Changes' (1981). Includes the iconic "Risin' to the Top", a defining bass line of contemporary R&B. Both these albums are classics from the singer, bass player, songwriter and producer discovered by Curtis Mayfield.
Keni Burke originated the bass line that set the standard for today's groove orientated r&b. His intro to Risin To The Top has been sampled by over twenty soul, swing and hip hop artists, Mary J. Blige using it prolifically on her smash single Love No Limit.
Born in Chicago, Keni began his career in music as a young teen with his family group The Stairsteps. A close neighbour and friend was Fred Cash of The Impressions who took Keni and the boys to see Curtis Mayfield. Shortly they were signed to the Windy City imprint Curtis had with Buddah Records and their hit version of Ooh Child became a signature song of the early 70s.
You're The best and Changes are the two iconic albums recorded for RCA in the early 80s and include another hit single Let Somebody Love You. This is the first time these albums have appeared together on one CD, and the first ever release for either album on CD. Individually they cost a fortune as Japanese imports.
Keni also recorded the album Nothin But Love for Expansion in the 90s, but this 2 on 1 is released to coincide with Keni's first UK visit with live band for 20 years (October 2010)
