Anthology - The Tangerine Dream Collection Part 8 of 8 (2007 to 2008)
Electronica / Krautrock | MP3@192kbps-320kbps | Artwork included
119 albums and growing | studio/soundtrack/concert | 1.44 GB

Without doubt, the recordings of Tangerine Dream have made the greatest impact on the widest variety of instrumental music during the 1980s and '90s, ranging from the most atmospheric new age and space music to the harshest abrasions of electronic dance. Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in Berlin, the group has progressed through a full three dozen lineups (Froese being the only continuous member with staying power) and four distinct stages of development: the experimentalist minimalism of the late '60s and early '70s; stark sequencer trance during the mid- to late '70s, the group's most influential period; an organic form of instrumental music on their frequent film and studio work during the 1980s; and, finally, a more propulsive dance style, which showed Tangerine Dream with a sound quite similar to their electronic inheritors in the field of dance music.

This anthology is the most complete (and of course, the largest) collection of TD albums that is roaming the net these days. Together with the "Tangerine Tree"-collection, it contains more then 200 albums from five decades! Nevertheless, there are better-quality versions of some of these albums floating around, especially here on AvaxHome, the place for high quality music. Those of you, who can tell the difference between 192kbps and 256 kbps or between 320kbps and FLAC, you may like to regard this collection as a basis and upgrade your archive from time to time with better bitrate versions if and when they're available. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the work and art of Tangerine Dream as much, as I do.

Notes
On July 1st, 2007 the city of Eberswalde (Germany) celebrated the opening of its new "Paul-Wunderlich-Haus", a huge public building complex including an Art Center with permanent exhibitions of the famous painter and sculptor Paul Wunderlich who was born in Eberswalde and became 80 years now. The highly acclaimed surrealist artist has given his name to the Center. Paul Wunderlich's paintings and sculptures can be found within the art collections of Tina Turner, Elton John, Madonna and many others. Tangerine Dream celebrated this opening with a free open air concert and light show on the town's marketplace.

On the occasion of this event the EP Bells Of Accra has been released which is dedicated to Wunderlich. It consists of one track of some 14 minutes, composed and performed by Edgar Froese and is said to be a limited release.

The Eastgate Music Shop advertises this release with the following words: "Only a few artists who are known for their very strange view regarding reality – "reality" as we are used to perceive it… – have the impact to give us that special mental herb needed to put things upside down. Paul Wunderlich who became 75 [sic!] this year is one of the few who gets his own museum in his lifetime – which isn't common business in the art's landscape. His paintings and sculptures are collected by many artists especially by musicians. Tangerine Dream had the honour to write this piece of music on the occasion of the inauguration of his museum on 1st July 2007 in Eberswalde/Germany. For some reason we realized an atmospherical connection to some West African art forms – that's why this recording is called Bells Of Accra."

Notes
The double CD release Booster compiles a number of rare (and some not so rare) compositions that had been mostly released on limited edition singles so far. It contains tracks from Ça Va - Ça Marche - Ça Ira Encore (1998, one of three tracks), Space Flight Orange (2005, one of two tracks), 40 Years Roadmap To Music (2006, one of three tracks), Blue Dawn (2006, one of ten tracks), Metaphor (2006, two of four tracks), Sleeping Watches Snoring In Silence (2007, complete), Bells Of Accra (2007, complete), and One Night In Space (2007, complete); as well as two remixed excerpts of compositions that had been released on the albums Tangram (1980) and Logos Live (1982), respectively. Furthermore this compilation features two completely new tracks that are unavailable on any other release.

The Eastgate Music Shop advertises this release with the following words: "Booster comes as a double CD and contains some real goodies from the alchymical soundboard of TD. There are two brand-new compositions and some tracks which aren't available on various EP's anymore. Of course you will hear music you've probably heard before – no-one forces you to stress your credit card again! :-). But for some of you it will become a collector's item as a pack of tracks which definitely will become 'classics' out of the first decade of the new musical Century. The first 200 CDs will come with a signed card by Edgar Froese himself."

Listen to this record at 5 pm when the afternoon sun falls noiseless on the carpet of your private flat - past, present and future will melt to that what really happens: That very moment when time seems to be absent nothing can disturb you. It's just consciousness and sound that could be more than the sum of yourself. Sounds crazy? True, because it's so close to reality - your reality.

Notes
TD’s performance of all 13 new songs - including a bonus song -, shows the Band in a very cool and relaxed atmosphere. Additionally you’ll see some ‘making of images’ as well as a 6 minutes Intro. It is probably the most intimate and private session the Band has done so far. Sit back and relax while watching parts of a very different world of Tangerine Dream’s musical universe.

Notes
"Art has nothing to do with taste. Art does not exist to be tasted."

The Silver Siren Collection features a number of tracks originally released on the soundtrack album What A Blast (1999) and on the box set i-Box (2000). Five tracks have been selected from each of the original releases. This compilation contains no new material.

This album had initially been released as a virtual album in January 2007, available from the Tangerine Dream Download Shop only. Eventually, in October 2007, it became available as CD release as well.

The Eastgate Music Shop advertises this compilation with the following words: "The third release out of the Antique Dream Land series is a musical power pack. A must for those of you who are very much into TD’s tasteful melodic approach. Specifically with this recording you can hear the causal context which combines most of TD’s work through the decades. Figure out if the keynote you might have personally about the band will effect you like a 'chain reaction' as it has been quoted recently. Entirely remastered –- enjoy the superb sound!"

Neither CD nor the paper inserts show any order number or barcode, but the CD has the matrix number listed below. The number given in brackets is the order number the Eastgate Music Shop lists this release.

Notes
On April 20th, 2007 Tangerine Dream performed at the London Astoria Theatre. This concert was later released on DVD as London Astoria Club Concert 2007.

On the occasion of this event the EP Sleeping Watches Snoring In Silence has been released, containing three tracks, two of them being reworkings of older material from the eighties (which both were performed live that evening), and the completely new title track (which was not performed live).

The Eastgate Music Shop advertises this release with the following words: "This collector's item […] contains 20 minutes of 'diehard' material which has been produced on the occasion of TD's Astoria gig on April 20th, 2007. This EP will not contain any vocal parts. There are three tracks of TD at its best." The mention of vocals obviously corresponds to the then current album release Madcap's Flaming Duty which was performed during the first set of the evening. Like everytime when TD experimented with vocals the fans' reactions were quite mixed about that album, so this EP can be understood as some kind of present to those fans who are not that happy with the direction TD took with that album and prefer a more 'classic', that is purely instrumental, approach.

Notes
Without much prior announcement, fans were surprised in early 2007 by Springtime In Nagasaki, a new release by Tangerine Dream.

This is the first album of the 'Five Atomic Seasons' cycle by Tangerine Dream that so far includes the following albums:

* Springtime In Nagasaki (2007)
* Summer In Nagasaki (2007)
* Autumn In Nagasaki (2008)

Here's what the Eastgate Music shop says about this release: "In November 2006 TD got the offer from a Japanese Business Manager, who turned 82 last year, to compose and record the so-called 'Five Atomic Seasons'. As it was clear that this was a real serious assignment, TD were told that the person who ordered the composition did study during his youth in the two cities which had been destroyed by atomic bombardments back in 1945, Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The five compositions had to be in length 54 minutes each. Part one and two – Spring and Summer 1945 – the client spent living in Nagasaki, while he lived in Hiroshima in Autumn and Winter of 1945, where he survived one of the most lunatic and barbarian war crimes ever done by mankind. Spring and Summer will describe the normal atmosphere in a Japanese city with some of the rising premonitions of what will happen on August 9th 1945. Autumn and Winter in Hiroshima will musically mirror what happened after August 6th 1945. The Fifth Season supposes to be the 'time after', the so-called 'endless season'.

According to information from the Eastgate Music shop, Springtime In Nagasaki is a limited pressing, but the number of copies is unknown at time of writing.

The six compositions float seamlessly one into the other; three of them are composed by Edgar Froese, the other three by Thorsten Quaeschning. According to the album's theme, Springtime In Nagasaki has a somewhat dark mood, stylistic it is much more a 'classic' TD album, quite different to Madcap's Flaming Duty, which can be regarded as the 'major' TD release of the year.

Notes
This recording out of four TD decades creates memories for those ones who were grown up with the band and their various moves and changes within their hystory. But it’s definitely not a ‘Best of’ or a compilation of formerly released material. It mirrors the timeless, floating character of TD’s music philosophy which never aimed to become a hit monster. Carefully restored and remastered or even newly recorded, this selection of sounds and music will help you to find your own individual path from the present to the past including a return ticket.

Tracks:
01. Carmel Calif 7:32
02. Passing All Signs 6:14
03. Leviathan 7:01
04. Hunter Shot By A Yellow Rabbit 9:33
05. Nutshell Awakening 6:38

07. Lord Of The Ants 9:41
08. Fire On The Mountain 7:41
09. Sound Of A Shell 6:42
Total running time: 70:22

Notes
'Views From A Red Train' is the new studio album by Tangerine Dream. Three tracks from the album have already made their first public appearance during the Frankfurt gig (at Alte Oper/"One Night In Space Concert") last year. The CD contains 10 tracks of very pulsating and energy driving material. Maybe the most rocktype oriented recording TD ever did. The fans who just love the EM ambient background stuff should maybe safe their money on this one. Fair advise – but if you’re willing to do the test of expanding your tolerance, you’re always welcome.
