The second "mid range" Delerium album, Spheres 2 follows after its predecessor in creating a "space" sound. Its very lush music, with many deep ambient synth work - the stand outs being "Dimensional Space" and "Otherworld". Lots of obscure sci-fi quotes, create a feeling of traveling, sometimes of being lost in spaces. Best tracks in my opinion are the setup track "Morphology", the synthy "Dimensional Spaces" which makes you feel like you're discovering uncharted territory, the upbeat "Hypoxia" which seems to cap of some "drama in space" series, and "In Four Dimensions" because of the cool changes that take place in the tone of the song. HIGHLY recommended.Review by Joel Youngblood, Amazon.com
I wasn't particularly wild about "Spheres" but I was awfully curious to hear "Spheres vol.2". The songs on "Spheres" didn't strike a chord with me like on their more recent albums from "Semantic Spaces" to "Poem", then again I immediately loved the group's early album "Syrophrenikan" with its hypnotic African tribal beats. "Spheres" just didn't move me. The album isn't bad, it was just a bit too weird for me, and I love unconventional music.
The first time I listened to "Spheres vol.2", I was surprised to find myself enjoying this album immensely. The songs were the songs I was expecting to hear on the first "Spheres" album. There is a sense of cohension on this album without the songs sounding the same. Plus the songs are more melodic while maintaining that abstract ambient sound that can also be found on "Spheres". Now while the songs on "Spheres" were too long for my tastes, I had no problem sitting through the 5-10 minute long tracks. "Spheres vol.2" would be the ideal soundtrack for a modern science fiction film. That mysterious, haunting vibe permeates throughout this entire album. I'm glad I picked up this album when I wasn't really sure if I wanted to after being disappointed with "Spheres".Review by Erica Anderson, Amazon.com
