Dutch classical-contemporary crossover songstress, Petra Berger, soars to the heights with her second album, Mistress. Petra chose thirteen famous women as the source of her inspiration. The album tells a story of the mistress, the scorned wife and the cheating husband. The roles are personified by famous women and her singing/storytelling brings about the emotions of despair, sadness, love, humiliation, jealousy and revenge. The power of her beautiful voice brings a new meaning to an angelic aria.
Petra adds to the ambiance of her story by singing in Italian, English, French and Spanish. Each of these languages helps to transform the music from a delicate tale to a robust masterpiece. Puisque c'est à la mode et que lui aussi, Vincent Delerm a choisi d'enregistrer “Les Piqûres d'araignée” en Suède, où l'air est plus frais et les studios plus chaleureux qu'ailleurs. Avec son compagnon Peter von Poehl, il a concocté treize nouvelles chansons pastel et démontre qu'il est passé maître dans l'art de cultiver la nostalgie des premières amours, des humeurs d'avant et des phrases bien mises. En effet, la musique ici, bien plus courtoise que cabocharde, n'est qu'une toile de fond devant laquelle Delerm fait danser les mots, les images sépia et ses souvenirs en huit millimètres. Homme de goût, il s'offre les services du décidément très sollicité Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy, Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg) dans "Favourite Song", seule incartade à sa langue natale. Le reste est en français dans les textes et les ambiances musicales, cinématographiques pour la plupart, sont également très… hexagonales! À noter l'hommage soyeux à Steffi Graf et ses jambes sans fin qui clôt l'album d'élégante façon et ravirait Agassi s'il savait.
