This collection provides a great value, especially if you total up the costs of each album separately. There are a few issues of which you should be aware.

Sound quality is acceptable, but not spectacular. Audiophiles will hate these discs, but I assure you that they are listenable. More importantly, these are not cheesy 'needle drop' transfers from scratchy LPs. Plus these are from albums recorded in the late 1950s/early 1960s during an era when recording technology was rapidly improving.

If you compare these to some of the albums to which I've linked below you will see that the ones in this collection do not have bonus tracks. In all cases you are getting tracks that were released on the original album.

The six albums span four discs. Here is the rundown on the tracks on each disc and the albums from which they came:

DISC ONE

Tracks 1 through 6 are the original tracks that were released on Look Out! by Blue Note in 1960. Bonus tracks on reissues are not included.

The remaining tracks are from the 1961 release of Blues Hour for Blue Note. This is a collaboration between Turrentine and a smoking piano trio called The Three Sounds.

Tracks 1 and 2 are a continuation of Blues Hour from DISC ONE.
1. Since I Fell For You; 2. Willow Weep For Me

The remaining tracks on this disc are from the original Blue Note album titled Comin' Your Way. This album was recorded on January 20, 1961, but not released until 1987. These tracks are from the original release and do not contain the bonus tracks released on subsequent reissues.
3. My Girl Is Just Enough Women For Me; 4. Then I'll Be Tired Of You; 5. Fine L'lil Lass; 6. Thomasville; 7. Someone To Watch Over Me; 8. Stolen Sweets

Note: all of the Minton's tracks on the two albums mentioned below were recorded at Minton's Playhouse in on February 23, 1961. Personnel on those tracks are Stanley on tenor, Grant Green on guitar, Horace Parlan on piano, George Tucker on bass and Al Harewood on drums.

The first four tracks are from Up at Mintons Vol.1
1. But Not For Me; 2. Stanley's Time; 3. Broadway; 4. Yesterdays

The final tracks are two of the four songs from Up at Minton's, Vol. 2 (the remaining ones are on DISC FOUR.
5. Later At Minton's; 6. Come Rain Or Come Shine

Tracks 1 and 2 are the final tracks from Up at Minton's, Vol. 2.
1. Love For Sale; 2. Summertime

The remaining tracks are from the 1961 Blue Note album titled Dearly Beloved.
3. Baia; 4. Wee Hour Theme; 5. My Shining Hour; 6. Troubles Of The World; 7. Dearly Beloved; 8. Nothing Ever Changes My Love For You

Overall this is a great collection for Turrentine fans and a good introduction to him for folks who are exploring his work and want a good representation of some of his earlier work.
