For this ECM project, John Surman (who plays soprano, baritone, clarinet, bass clarinet and piano) and conductor John Warren wrote a full set of original music for Surman's reeds, a seven-piece brass section and a rhythm section to interpret. This episodic set has its share of sound explorations but also contains swinging sections and an impressive amount of excitement. The colorful solos (mostly by Surman) and the unpredictable writing make this a highly recommended disc. (AMG)

Even more AOR oriented than its predecessor ("Private Motion"), "One Heart" delivers stupendous melodic tunes on "The Chosen Few" and "Rain Down On Me" in the vein of Steve Overland's FM, soft Westcoast tracks like "Another Side Of You" or "Show Me A Way" and his usual Hi-Tech numbers in "Don't Give Up" and "I Get This Feeling". Title track "One Heart" is an elegant midtempo AOR, while "We Danced All Night" reminds you those mid-eighties soundtrack catchy songs.

Great AOR mini-album made by John Warren with Hi-Tech Pop influences, a good example is the entitled "Take Me Back". "The Love Beat" this song reminded of "Silent Running" (Mike & The Mechanics) a lot). "Into The Night" catchy song, nice tune and good solo (Harmonica and Guitar) with a pomp feeling on the chorus. "Carry On" my favorite AOR song here! "I'll Do Anything for You" a semi-ballad , what a voice! - similar to Steve Overland. "Tell Me Now" great uptempo song that finishes the album in an excellent way.
