The former Michael Bolotin changed his name but not his style on his initial effort for Columbia Records. Bolton had essayed hard-edged arena rock with his band Blackjack, and here he did much the same thing, shout-singing in his emotive whiskey bellow over slashing guitar power chords (frequently courtesy of Blackjack's Bruce Kulick and his brother Bob), icy keyboard fills, angelic backup choirs, and thundering rhythm sections, all intended to fill the hockey auditoriums of America alongside Journey and Foreigner. For all the clichés, Bolton was an undeniably involving singer, and songs like "Fools Game," the lead-off track and chart single, were satisfying pop efforts that suggested he might offer some competition to emerging mainstream rockers like Bryan Adams. As things would turn out, of course, the true key track was the cover of the Supremes' "Back in My Arms Again."

When The Temptations left Motown in 1977 the group weighed offers from Warner Bros. and Philadelphia International before settling for Atlantic. The album seemed doomed from the start. Temptations lead Dennis Edwards had already left the group and was replaced by Louis Price. This album was released in late 1977 and was a fixture of the cutout bins by the early '80s. Ron Baker, Norman Harris, and Trammps member Earl Young, collectively known as Baker-Harris-Young, produced this album. They were known for their grittier variant of Philly soul/disco but often they play it too safe here. The fact that The Temptations did their vocals in New York rather than Philadelphia does diminish the Philly credentials a bit.

"Alternative" is a compilation album by English synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys. It was first released in 1995. "Alternative" is a 2-disc set, consisting of 30 B-sides in chronological order. The title Alternative was a last-minute change from the title that had been long saved for such an album, Besides, but that title was taken by American rock band Sugar, who released their own B-sides compilation two months prior. "Alternative" only really gained popularity among devoted fans of Pet Shop Boys with the exception of the UK, where it entered the charts at #2. A remake of the original 7-inch "Paninaro", titled "Paninaro '95", was released as a single (which was featured in the later PopArt set) to promote the 2-disc compilation. The cover of Alternative features photographs of Tennant and Lowe in fencing masks. The first copies of the CD have a lenticular image on the cover which shifts between the two photographs.

Overview A legendary event in the incredible 60-year history of the Rolling Stones is being released in full for the first time on Friday, April 29th. Live At The El Mocambo marks the first official appearance of the group's two famous secret concerts at the 300-capacity Toronto club in March 1977. It features the Stones' full set from the March 5 show, plus three bonus tracks from the March 4 gig, newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain. Only four of the performances found their way onto the Love You Live album that followed in September 1977, which was dominated by tracks captured on the band's 1975 and '76 tours, with the full set having never been heard before. As the Stones took to the stage of the “El Mo,” a fixture of the Toronto music scene since the 1940s, punk and disco were both rearing into full view, supposedly ready to see off a band who had already been at the top of their game for 15 years.

Cherry Red affiliate Superbird pairs Bar-Kays' first two albums for Mercury, the label to which the band defected after a long and productive run with Stax. Both recordings reached the Top Ten of Billboard's R&B albums chart. Too Hot to Stop, released in 1976, features the singles "Shake Your Rump to the Funk," "Too Hot to Stop," and "Spellbound," while Flying High on Your Love spawned "Let's Have Some Fun" and "Attitudes." Comparable to what their P-Funk brothers and sisters were releasing at the time, these are two of the band's most enjoyable albums, though they're not without a fair amount of filler. This is a straight-up two-for-one compilation with no bonus tracks.

Cherry Red's Robinsongs division combines a pair of late-'70s Mercury albums by the Bar-Kays: 1978's "Light of Life" and 1979's "Injoy". Given the band's extensive discography (including a Stax-released 1978 album with an incredible re-recording of "Holy Ghost"), these releases have fallen by the wayside, but both of them fared well. The former reached #15 on Billboard's album chart, while the latter missed the top spot by one position. There's a handful of notable singles and deep album cuts, including the charting A-sides "Shine" and "I'll Dance," as well as "Move Your Boogie Body" and the ballad "Running in and Out of My Life."

Collectables' Michael Bolotin / Every Day of My Life contains Michael Bolton's first two albums on one CD. During this time, Bolton was going by his given name, Bolotin, and was trying to be a hard-rocker. He may have had the voice for it - his raspy wail does sound better with louder guitars than with soft-rock synthesizers - but these records don't really work, since the material is very, very uneven (the originals are weak; the covers are good, but ill-suited for this hard rock) and the arena-rock wannabe production dates both albums badly, making them only of interest for completists. Those completists, however, should be happy with Collectables' release, even if it does omit "If I Had Your Love" from Every Day of My Life, since the disc has good sound and decent packaging.

Great one and only LP by this early 70s band from Calgary Alberta Canada. They were formed from the ashes of a 60s psych band called 'The 49th Parallel, also from Calgary. Danny Lowe-Lead Guitar, Doran Beattie-Vocals, Wayne Morice-Bass & Vocals, Barry Allen-Rhythm Guitar & Vocals, and Bob Ego-Drums. Their music was heavy rock, in the style of BTO or April Wine. The album was recorded in Seattle Washington, where Painter eventually based themselves. After it's release in '73, the band did the bar/club and arena circuit, opening for some pretty big names. A couple years later, "Painter" evolved into 'Hammersmith', who took the same heavy rock formula and released a couple of LPs and achieved some moderate success.

"Talking Book" is the 15th studio album by American singer, songwriter and musician Stevie Wonder, released on October 28, 1972, on the Tamla label for Motown Records. The album is widely noted for being the signal recording of Wonder's "classic period". The sound of the album is sharply defined by Wonder's keyboard work, especially with the synthesizers he incorporated. His use of the Hohner clavinet model C on "Superstition" is widely regarded as one of the definitive tracks featuring the instrument.

"Romance" is David Cassidy's 7th studio album as a solo artist and his first released by Arista Records. Released in 1985, Romance was the only studio album Cassidy released during the 1980s. Since growing out of his teen idol fame from The Partridge Family, Cassidy continued to try to re-invent his music career; however, in the United States, his latter albums from the 1970s did not chart. Therefore, for the album Romance, Arista excluded a U.S. release and released the album only in Europe, Israel, Japan, South Africa and Australia. Romance hit #20 on the British charts in May 1985. George Michael sang on the song, "The Last Kiss" (originally recorded with different lyrics by Cliff Richard in 1981 as Young Love), which peaked at #6 in the UK Top 40 and charted all over Europe and in Australia.

"Fame and Fashion" is a David Bowie compilation album issued in 1984 by RCA Records featuring songs recorded between 1969's David Bowie and 1980's Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps). After Bowie left RCA Records in 1983, RCA, wishing to capitalize on his immense popularity at the time, continued to release compilation albums without his permission or input. Soon after the release of this album and the reissue of his entire RCA album catalog on compact disc, Bowie reclaimed the rights to his recordings and his entire RCA album catalog went out of print, until it was first reissued by Rykodisc, beginning in 1989.

Only some of the compositions of this album can be found later in compilation "The Palo Alto Sessions 1981-1985" of Blue Note (1996). Therefore, this disc is a rarity even in the auction sales.
