Australian sound engineer Robert Parker developed a unique way of making simulated stereo recordings out of old 78s, extracting far more sonic detail from these ancient recordings than one would have ever thought possible. On this disc he turns his expertise to Count Basie.
William "Count" Basie made a major contribution to the popular success of Big Band Swing. His orchestra had two major strengths: dynamic, inventive soloists and a closely knit rhythm section that swung to perfection. Basie was also a particularly gifted pianist, and a leader capable of getting maximum effort from his men. It was a combination of forces which produced electrifying results - captured for posterity in his early 78rpm records - a representative selection of which are presented here in digital stereo impressions which reveal the full 'live' impact of one of the greatest Big Bands ever assembled.
