Clarinet player Eddy Vanoosthuyse is joined by the renowned Czech Zemlinsky Quartet exhibiting a refreshing point of view on Mozart's repertoire for clarinet and string ensemble. All things Mozart have been said and done, you'd think. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. On a daily basis new findings are added to the research portfolio, not only with regards to the famous Salzburgian's life hasn't that been dissected to death? but also about each and every one of his compositions, continuously getting reframed, analysed and compared. The exegesis of the Mozartverse is a full-time job to many. The works on this recording alone raise a bunch of questions of which several remain unanswered.

Sofie set out to find pieces from the solo lute repertoire that she intuitively associated with the different phases of the text. The result is a concert with a surprising palette of colors, styles and atmospheres. At times she chose the rich, powerful sound of the theorbo. At other times, she chose the fragile, muted sound of the Renaissance lute
The Prélude by French Baroque composer Robert de Visée combines phrases full of grandeur with pauses for breath full of intimate doubt. The music of John Dowland draws on the typically English predilection for melancholy. Francesco da Milano's fantasies and ricercars echo not only the bright colors of the Italian Renaissance, but also the constant search for a new beginning. Luis de Narvaez's Cancion del emperador is an arrangement for lute of Josquin Desprez's famous chanson Mille Regretz, a song that exudes serene regret for all that is not. And in the Chaconne by Robert de Visée, the same chord progression spins on its own axis. At Sofie's request, Vladimir Gorlinsky created a new composition that reflects the state of mind in the midst of a burnout

Hoffmeister’s oeuvre is quite an extensive catalogue with a remarkable number of works for flute. Several flute concertos and numerous chamber line-ups in which the flute predominates, are at the forefront. Since the flute was very popular at the time, not only the composer but also the publisher in Hoffmeister prospered. The quality of his music was high, and Hoffmeister became one of the best-known composers of his time. With nine operas, all performed scenically in the prominent Viennese theatres, he did better than many others. Schubert, for instance, could never attend a performance of one of his own operas during his lifetime.
