The album unites Soft Machine's legendary bass pioneer Hugh Hopper—showcasing his iconic, heavily overdriven fuzz-bass, electric, and piccolo bass textures—with alternative mastermind Mark Kramer on piano, organ, Mellotron, tape loops, and guitars. Together with a stellar avant-garde cast including drumming master Bill Bacon, guitarist Randolph A. Hudson III, and the wild sax work of Gary Windo, they construct a fascinating, experimental architecture of sound. "Subrepticement" (1979) is the only, rare, and cult-favorite album by the French band Bedjabetch. Released on the private independent label A.W.A. Records (catalog number BB 006), the record was extremely limited in quantity, making the original vinyl a highly collectible item today.

This is a lavish boxed set covering the Radio Gnome Invisible years of Gong, as well as the Shamal album - arguably the last album from their Virgin run where their original psychedelic whimsy was still in evidence, before the more buttoned-down fusion style of Pierre Moerlen's Gong started to predominate on Gazeuse.
Not only do you get lavish remasters of the relevant albums from the original master tapes produced by Mike Howlett, but the overall presentation is overseen by Steve Hillage, and if you're aware of Steve's fantastic Searching For the Spark boxed set of his solo albums you know that Steve is no slouch when it comes to this sort of thing. Even better, you also get a wealth of live material here, including at least one complete concert corresponding to each studio album release, giving you a deep look at the other side of Gong during this era.

In recent times Canterbury flavoured prog has almost been reborn and flourished under the wave of young musicians playing homage to the likes of Egg, Hadfield and the North, Camel and Caravan, but bringing a fresh up to date element to the music, one such artists is Tom Penaguin who is now firmly established as a master craftsman in field of Canterbury styled instrumental music.

Homunculus Res, a fantastic Italian prog band with strong Canterbury Scene elements is back with a new album, after their phenomenal work from 2020 "Andiamo in Giro di Notte e ci Consumiamo nel Fuoco". "Ecco l'impero dei doppi sensi" is the name of the new album, and here, the band successfully brings a combination of Canterbury that perfectly implements elements of psychedelia, tinged with jazz and progressive, but also gives a dose of pop from the sixties. Ironic and oblique, evocative but also meticulous, the compositions represent a perfect union of the aforementioned styles. All these are elements of fundamental importance for the sonic alchemy of the band.

An obscure footnote of early-'70s British art rock, Khan featured guitarist Steve Hillage, keyboardist Dave Stewart, and ex-Crazy World of Arthur Brown bassist Nick Greenwood. Their sole album from 1972 was dominated by Hillage's lengthy, ambitious compositions and Stewart's organ, which owed much to the Canterbury Scene of British prog rock. The group didn't offer much to distinguish themselves from the many other British outfits exploring similar territory, and disbanded after one LP. Hillage went on to join Kevin Ayers and Gong before establishing a solo career; Stewart played with Hatfield & the North and National Health.

Smile A While is a spectacularly complex, historically monumental, and masterfully irreverent progressive jazz-rock masterpiece by the legendary Baden-Baden-based ensemble Brainstorm, originally released in 1972 on Spiegelei and beautifully reissued in 1996 with vital bonus material by the premier French historical archival imprint Musea Records. Spanning nearly 63 minutes across 11 definitive tracks, this high-fidelity document serves as an essential monument to the highly specialized Canterbury-inflected sector of German Krautrock. While many of their national peers focused on cosmic electronic drones or heavy blues jamming, Brainstorm carved out a fiercely intelligent, completely distinct sub-genre niche, combining the complex, shifting time signatures of Soft Machine and Caravan with sharp avant-garde humor, complex harmonic counterpoint, and relentless woodwind-driven jazz-fusion.

Darker, moodier and filled with some irresistible pop-hooks, "Nat o Dag" is destined to become a modern psychedelic classic. Natt o Dag is a flower common in the Swedish forests. Its purple and yellow flowers represent night and day and the idea of this two sided record took place in a huge patch of these flowers on a lonesome bike trip on remote paths some two Summers ago.
