The title track "Love Maze" features a heart-piercing lead, and impeccable backing harmonies; tender sweeties "Let Me Be the One" and "Passion" travel the same romantic road. Most prefer the Temprees doing dripping, slow ballads, and there's not enough of them on this multi-styled, rag-tag disc. Selections like "Something So Right" and "Come On Y'all" might not appeal to those who enjoy southern soul. The Temprees emulate the Stylistics on "Trust In Me," and "People Make the World Go 'Round," featuring their clear vocals and the Stax gang at their finest.

A fabulous album, done when Pickett was in the midst of his best period at Atlantic. It had everything - great songs, wonderful production and arrangements, and a hungry, galvanizing Wilson Pickett hollering, screaming, shouting, and soaring on anything he covered, from ballads to uptempo dance and midtempo wailers. It also has been deleted at present.

"The Exciting Wilson Pickett", released in 1966, was the 3rd album by R&B and soul singer Wilson Pickett. The album charted at #3 on the U.S. Billboard R&B albums chart and #21 on the popular albums chart, becoming the highest-charting studio album of Pickett's career. The making of the album saw Pickett end his relationship with Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, where he had cut his early singles, and move to Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where he would record for the next two years. According to AllMusic, this album firmly established Picket's "stature as a major '60s soul man". The album launched four major hits for Pickett, but AllMusic emphasizes that the album cuts, "of nearly an equal level", will be of more interest to collectors.

Two vintage albums by the Soul Children for the price of one CD. Half the productions are by their mentors Isaac Hayes and David Porter, the other half by Porter and his subsequent partner Ronnie Williams. Deep soul sagas the magnitude of "I'll Understand," "Move Over," and "Tighten Up My Thang" provided the paradigm for future Soul Children producers. The Porter/Williams productions are more consistent, but none are as brilliant as the few gems by Hayes and Porter. But whatever the Soul Children sing, their golden voices make even the most hackneyed cuts interesting.
