Guitarist/keyboardist Tony MacAlpine really hits his stride on Maximum Security. While it's not all that different from his first album, Edge of Insanity, it's just much better. The album's captivating neoclassical/fusion forays are filled with plenty of beautiful melodies and hair-raising solos; MacAlpine simply lights up the fretboard – and the keyboard, for that matter. Opening with a stormy harpsichord motif, the album's leadoff track, "Autumn Lords," sounds promising from the start. The piece soars with dramatic classical precision and features some truly breathtaking guitar/keyboard interplay.

Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E Flat Minor Op.1 is the eleventh studio album by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, released on 4 February 1998 through Canyon International. The album was Malmsteen's first attempt at a classical concerto suite featuring electric guitar solos. All of the music was composed by Malmsteen, though his compositions were scored by his friend and fellow musician David Rosenthal. The music is conducted by Yoel Levi, and performed by the Czech Philharmonic. Malmsteen has been keen to emphasize that unlike other collaborations between rock musicians and classical orchestras (such as Deep Purple's Concerto for Group and Orchestra), which feature a rock group playing with orchestral accompaniment, this is orchestral music which happens to have an electric guitar as its solo instrument.

This is one of his hardest albums; the songwriting as well as the guitar work shows the influence of bands like Rainbow and Deep Purple. Most of the material is solid, and there are a few outstanding tracks like Pyramid of Cheops. The vocals are handled by Mike Verscara, who shows himself to be a competent, if not outstanding singer. The mastering on this SPV edition is quite good, resulting in very clear sound. The bonus material here consists of a studio track, In the Distance
