"Of all David Bowie's many distinctive personae, none have done more to lodge this most ingenious of British artists in the world's consciousness than his 1972 amalgam of the alien visitor and Christ-like rock star: Ziggy Stardust. Cheap glamour, spacemen and ambiguous sexuality surface throughout the loosely conceptualised collection that is The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. If its premise sounds faintly ludicrous, then inspired and dramatic songs such as "Starman" and "Five Years" dispel all doubts about Bowie's genius, and the theatrically tragic "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" brings the album and it's fictional protagonist to a close. As a cultural and musical signpost, Ziggy Stardust points simultaneously backwards to early rock & roll and forward to the simpler, tougher inclinations of late-1970s punk and New Wave rock. As one of the defining rock albums of the 20th century, its influence is immeasurable."

British Polygram TV's Greatest Hits is a fine 20-track collection that contains all of Kiss' best songs, from "Rock and Roll All Nite" and "Strutter" to "Beth," "Plaster Caster," and "Cold Gin," on one disc. For casual fans, this is likely all the Kiss they would need, even if it does contain a few odd selections.

After the freakish hard rock of The Man Who Sold the World, David Bowie returned to singer/songwriter territory on Hunky Dory. Not only did the album boast more folky songs ("Song for Bob Dylan," "The Bewlay Brothers"), but he again flirted with Anthony Newley-esque dancehall music ("Kooks," "Fill Your Heart"), seemingly leaving heavy metal behind. As a result, Hunky Dory is a kaleidoscopic array of pop styles, tied together only by Bowie's sense of vision: a sweeping, cinematic mélange of high and low art, ambiguous sexuality, kitsch, and class. Mick Ronson's guitar is pushed to the back, leaving Rick Wakeman's cabaret piano to dominate the sound of the album.

Looking Back is a comprehensive collection of Cinderella's entire career, featuring all of their hits – "Nobody's Fool," "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)," "The Last Mile," "Coming Home," "Gypsy Road," "Shelter Me" – plus highlights from their inconsistent records, and the previously unreleased "War Stories." The compilation doesn't overlook nearly any of their best songs, and it's hard to imagine that a more thorough retrospective than Looking Back could ever be assembled.

The Hoople is the seventh studio album by legendary British rock band Mott The Hoople, originally released in 1974 and later reissued in a remastered edition by Legacy in 2006. Arriving during the height of the glam rock era, the album captures the band’s signature combination of theatrical rock energy, melodic songwriting, sharp guitar work, and emotionally expressive performances. Led by the charismatic Ian Hunter, the group delivers a diverse collection of tracks ranging from energetic rock anthems to reflective ballads and sophisticated arrangements enriched with piano, saxophone, and layered vocal harmonies. Songs such as “The Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll” and “Roll Away The Stone” became defining examples of the band’s glam-infused classic rock sound, balancing powerful hooks with intelligent songwriting and dynamic instrumentation. The remastered edition expands the original album with valuable bonus tracks, rare B-sides, singles, work-in-progress recordings, and live material that provide deeper insight into the band’s creative peak during the mid-1970s. The Hoople remains one of Mott The Hoople’s strongest releases and an essential album for fans of glam rock, classic British rock, and emotionally charged guitar-driven music.

Rock And Roll Queen is a powerful early compilation-style release from legendary British rock band Mott The Hoople, originally connected to the group’s formative early-1970s period and later reissued in 1991 by Atlantic. The album captures the raw energy, rebellious spirit, and eclectic songwriting that helped establish the band as one of the most influential acts of the glam and hard rock era. Fronted by the charismatic Ian Hunter, Mott The Hoople blended aggressive rock riffs, blues-influenced arrangements, theatrical glam aesthetics, and emotionally charged vocals into a distinctive sound that stood apart from many of their contemporaries. Tracks such as “Rock And Roll Queen” and “Thunderbuck Ram” showcase the band’s gritty guitar-driven approach and energetic live-style intensity, while songs like “Midnight Lady” introduce more melodic and atmospheric moments. The album also includes a spirited interpretation of The Kinks classic “You Really Got Me,” reflecting the band’s deep roots in British rock tradition. Rock And Roll Queen remains an essential snapshot of early glam rock evolution and a valuable release for fans of classic British hard rock and proto-punk energy.

Cherry Pie is the breakthrough second studio album by American hard rock band Warrant, released in 1990 through CBS/Sony Group Inc. The album became one of the defining releases of the glam metal era, combining infectious hard rock riffs, flashy guitar work, melodic hooks, and power ballads with the larger-than-life attitude that dominated late-1980s and early-1990s rock music. Led by frontman Jani Lane’s charismatic vocals and songwriting, the record balances party anthems with emotionally driven ballads and darker storytelling elements. The title track “Cherry Pie” became the band’s signature hit thanks to its energetic chorus and MTV popularity, while songs such as “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” and “I Saw Red” revealed a more mature and melodic side of the group. Musically, the album features powerful guitar solos, polished production, and catchy choruses designed for arena rock audiences. The inclusion of both high-energy rockers and heartfelt acoustic-driven moments helped the album achieve major commercial success and solidified Warrant’s place within the glam metal movement. Cherry Pie remains a classic release for fans of melodic hard rock and late-1980s hair metal culture.

Silverhead's second record, 16 and Savaged, finds the unit much tighter, yet like any great rock & roll band, they maintained that all-important swagger. The addition of guitarist Robbie Blunt gives the group an added punch, and he and Rod Davies proved to be one of glam's best twin-guitar attacks. Vocalist Michael Des Barres steps up as well, and his Steve Marriott-bumping-into-Rod Stewart rasp never sounded better, before or since. The boys come out blazing on the groovy opener, "Hello New York," nailing the Bolan strut and swiping the "Get It On" licks, while the gleefully sleazy "More Than Your Mouth Can Hold" has a definite Faces vibe, an intro borrowed from "Street Fighting Man," and all the subtlety of a Gene Simmons lyric.

In a decade fueled by party anthems and power ballads, Poison enjoyed a great amount of popularity, with only Bon Jovi and Def Leppard outselling them. While the group had a long string of pop-metal hits, they soon became just as renowned for their stage show, and continued to be a major attraction long after the '80s came to a close (bringing the commercial downfall of pop-metal with it). Part of Universal Music's budget-priced Icon series, this 11-track collection of hits from pop-metal chart toppers Poison includes late-'80s party anthems like "Talk Dirty to Me," "Nothin' But a Good Time," and "Unskinny Bop," as well as the popular ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

Stevie Ray Vaughan became the biggest new star in the blues and an overnight guitar hero after the release of his 1983 debut album Texas Flood. But Vaughan played on an even bigger hit album that same year; he was the lead guitarist on the sessions for David Bowie's commercial comeback Let's Dance, and was originally slated to tour as part of Bowie's backing band. Last minute disputes led to Vaughan dropping out of Bowie's group, with Earl Slick taking his place for the Serious Moonlight Tour, which became one of the year's biggest concert draws. Space Oddity was recorded during rehearsals for the tour, shortly before Vaughan dropped out, and gives fans an opportunity to hear how these tunes from Bowie's catalog would have sounded on-stage with Vaughan lending his skills to the performances.

Jerusalem Slim released an album titled Jerusalem Slim but broke up in 1992, due to Monroe and Stevens' musical disagreements. When Michael Monroe began working on the follow-up to his Not Fakin’ It solo album, songwriting work with ex-Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens metamorphosed into a full band with the recruitment of drummer Greg Ellis and Monroe’s former Hanoi Rocks colleague, bass player Sam Yaffa. However, the guitarist’s bombastic style never really gelled with Monroe’s more straightforward rock ‘n’ roll approach, and the band dissolved when Stevens joined ex-Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil’s band.

Marc Bolan welcomed the advent of punk rock with the biggest smile he'd worn in years. The hippest young gunslingers could go on all night about the influence of the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, and the Ramones, but Bolan knew – and subsequent developments proved – that every single one of them had been nurtured in his arms, growing up with the ineffable stream of brilliant singles he slammed out between 1970-1972, and rehearsing their own stardom to the soundtrack he supplied. With tennis racquet guitars and hairbrushes for mikes, they stood before the mirror and practiced the Bolan Boogie. Of course, most punks only knew three chords.
