The Golden Age of Wireless is the debut album by Thomas Dolby. Released in 1982, the album contains the pop hit "She Blinded Me with Science" in its later resequencings. Following the album's overall theme of radio are the songs "Airwaves", "Commercial Breakup", and "Radio Silence," along with songs about the modern world ("Windpower", "Flying North", "Europa and the Pirate Twins"). At the time of the original US release, the moody and cinematic tone—a major departure for most synthesizer-driven records—prompted Musician magazine's reviewer to declare it "The best damned synth-pop record ever, period." This version includes the original UK album tracks, in sequence, as tracks 1-9. Bonus tracks 10-14 were previously included on various re-issues during 1982/83/84. Tracks 16-19 are previously unreleased demo recordings. Also included with this release is a DVD containing a remastered version of the long-form performance video Live Wireless, recorded at the Riverside Theatre Studios, London. "Urban Tribal" also features a new accompanying vocal by Harper Robertson.

One of Italy's best-loved artists, Adriano Celentano has been equally successful in film and music. Whether singing Elvis Presley-inspired rock, as he did as a member of the Rock Boys in 1957, or romantic balladry, Celentano found a dedicated market for his music…

Hoop — not to be confused with the Indiana group Hoops — are a four-piece from Seattle who make gauzy, light music that’s easy to sink into. They’re releasing their debut album, Super Genuine, later this year, and though lead single “Marlin Spike” feels tranquil, Caitlin Roberts is singing about a relationship that’s anything but easy. “The song reflects the element of frustration when both parties in a courtship have difficulty communicating the true depth of their feelings,” she explains.

Saint Etienne's eighth record, Words and Music by Saint Etienne, is centered on a theme that has been part of their music since the group began. They've always been one of the most nostalgic groups around, draping themselves in the visuals, styles, and sounds of the past while still staying modern. They've rarely seemed to be touched by the past on a personal level, but now perhaps age and experience have given them a reason to look back at their own lives and do a bit of summing up…

Regina Spektor's second live album, Live on Soundstage was recorded for the PBS music series in a 400-seat studio at WTTW in Chicago in July 2016. The performance premiered on PBS stations that October, and in between, September saw the release of her seventh studio LP, Remember Us to Life. The live set relies heavily on that album and includes almost its entire track list. Having been her first record to feature a full orchestra on select songs, she has a piano and a 12-piece band/chamber orchestra at her disposal for the show.

Stylistically, reggae incorporates some of the musical elements of rhythm and blues, jazz, mento a celebratory, rural folk form that served its largely rural audience as dance music and an alternative to the hymns and adapted chanteys of local church singing, calypso, African music, as well as other genres. One of the most easily recognizable elements is offbeat rhythms; staccato chords played by a guitar or piano on the offbeats of the measure. The tempo of reggae is usually slower than ska but faster than rocksteady. The concept of "call and response" can be found throughout reggae music.

Sarah Brightman's The Songs That Got Away delivers what the title promises: a collection of 14 of Brightman's favorite songs that are more obscure to the general public. These little-known show tunes include works by Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Noël Coward, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and other great songwriters, making this album worthwhile not only for Brightman fans, but musical theater historians as well.

Songs From Where I Live sees Good Good Blood (aka James Smith) take his gift for delicate songwriting and direct it toward a personal account of his own experiences. Written and recorded at home during the first week of January 2017, the album was born out of a long bout of depression where the act of musical creativity was cathartic and self-affirming. There are echoes of Alex G and Mount Erie at work, uplifting moments that signal rebirth and growth, and lyrical themes focusing on life, mental health, family and ultimately, the grounding embrace of the little Northern England town where he lives.

After a run of excellent, home-recorded EPs, Indiana’s Hoops stepped into a proper studio for the first time to make their debut album. Cleaning up the hiss and distortion may have lessened their ramshackle charm, but it also accentuates the gorgeous melodies at the heart of their hazy psych-pop, particularly on the urgent, jangling “Rules” and the bittersweet “Burden.”

“Jazz blossoms with deep roots” is how the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper summarised a concert appearance of Natalia Mateo. This 1983 born vocalist is a wanderer between the worlds - musically and in real life. Born in Poland, raised in Austria and now living in Germany, she has absorbed the most varied of impressions and cultures into her being: She draws from the Slavic ballad tradition, from American jazz and singer-songwriters ranging from Joni Mitchell to Amy MacDonald, and from contemporary pop and rock music.

Since Sarah Cracknell was busy being the voice of Saint Etienne, it's hard to blame her too much for taking almost two decades to deliver her second solo album. After giving Red Kite a spin though, it's good enough that it's easy to wish that she had done it sooner. Unlike her 1997 album Lipslide, this time out Cracknell takes a giant step away from the patented Saint Etienne sound, surrounding her whisper-soft vocals with chamber pop, country-rock, and folk trappings (i.e., lots of guitars) while capturing the same sepia-toned nostalgic melancholy so much of their work has…

Melbourne’s Miami Horror are known for their sleek, organic indietronica, but it sounds as if the four-piece are interested in pushing past such simple classifications. Today they’ve announced “a one-off conceptual release” that doubles as a “sonic/art experience” in the form of new EP The Shapes, with eclectic lead single “Leila” serving as a first taste. A press release explains that the band’s new project will find them dabbling in everything from “the art pop and lyrical wit of Talking Heads to Caribbean funk and African beats.” That kind of subtly ambitious, percussion-driven electro-funk is exemplified nicely by “Leila,” which builds on a punchy, dance floor-ready beat to deliver a sunny vibe that feels unstuck in time.

J.C. Lodge is the type of artist reggae purists have no use for. As they see it, blending reggae with elements of pop, urban contemporary and dance music in so sleek a fashion only serves to water reggae down. But then, Lodge never claimed to be a purist, and in fact, Tropic of Love is fairly decent. The expressive Lodge has an alluring, sexy quality to her voice that works to her advantage on such sleek pop-reggae offerings as "The Prey," "Why" and the hit "Telephone Love." Most of the material is very 1990s-sounding, but "Come Again" is a pleasant number that, except for some dancehall-minded toasting, recalls the reggae of the '60s (when Jamaican artists were paying very close attention to what the American soulsters of Motown were up to). Also noteworthy is Lodge's cover of Sylvia Robinson's seductive 1973 hit "Pillow Talk." Tropic isn't breathtaking, but it's definitely more soulful and enjoyable than reggae's purists claim.
