Most famous for his vocal and guitar work in the group Ten Years After, Alvin Lee had a long solo career after the band dispersed, still working in the hard rock, rockabilly, and British blues style that TYA did until his sudden death in Spain in the spring of 2013. This set captures his last live show, a concert held in Raalte, Holland, on May 28, 2012, with a crisp rhythm section of Pete Pritchard on bass and Richard Newman on drums. The show was recorded, and although it wasn't recorded to be an official release, Lee was pleased with the performance and authorized its release, not knowing, of course, that it would be his swan song.

Ten Years After is the debut album by the English blues rock band Ten Years After. It features "Spoonful", a Howlin' Wolf song (written for him by Willie Dixon) that the British blues rock group Cream covered as well (on their albums Fresh Cream and Wheels of Fire). The album is also low on original material in comparison to the band's later works which were, in most cases, entirely composed of Alvin Lee's songs. It's one of the first blues rock albums released by the British artists.

Detroit Diesel portrays Alvin Lee in more mature and relaxed mood. This collection of 10 tracks includes cuts that range from Blues romps to funky jams. His astonishing technique is still well displayed, but the material gives him a chance to stretch out and groove in a style closer to the Rolling Stones than Ten Years After. An all-star collection of old mates - such as Jon Lord, Joe Brown and George Harrison - make guest appearances, but the heavy duty backing work is carried out by Tim Hinkley (keyboards), Steve Gould (guitar), the late Boz Burrell (bass) and Bryson Graham (drums), who cook up a smokin' rhythm section.

From the first track "Keep On Rockin'" which sounds alot like Ten Years After's "Choo Choo Mama" you know this cd is gonna cook. You've got the hilarious song "Long Legs" which could have been sung by ZZ Top (Its that kind of song), "Boogie All Day" which is very swing oriented, and you even have Alvin doing some cover versions. One being the Dave Edmunds hit "I Hear You Knockin'" which is as good if not better than the original. And Alvin even does a superb job of covering The Beatles tune "I Want You (She's so Heavy)".

This is one great live CD and it features songs from Alvin's "Nineteen Ninety Four" cd as well songs from his Ten Years After days such as "Love Like A Man", "I'm Going Home", etc. Songs such as "Keep On Rockin", "I Don't Give A Damn" and the Dave Edmunds 70's hit "I Hear You Knockin", and his version of "Johnny B. Goode" absoluetly smoke. You can hear the audience's approval after every song. The sound quality is superb and really brings out that "Live" audience feel. Great CD for those who appreciate a true showman and fantastic guitarist!
If you like Ten Years After you must have this CD. Alvin is in great form playing with intensity and clarity. The production sound is extremely good for a live album and the guitar is especially rich and crisp.

It seems that the ex-Ten Years After frontman considers this 2012 release a career recap of sorts, at least judging from its title, which references Lee's first solo album circa 1973. Although Mylon LeFevre, who was co-billed on that disc, is inexplicably M.I.A. (it would have been nice for Lee to mention him in his self-penned liner notes), the organic nature of this one does capture the nearly 40-year-old album's rather loose, homespun structure that was such a departure from Ten Years After's "I'm Going Home" boogie. Still, this is bookended by some of Lee's most overtly TYA-sounding material, with the lead-off title track and especially "Midnight Creeper" capturing his first band's psychedelic blues as effectively as anything he's recorded since…

After the demise of the original Ten Years After in 1974, Alvin Lee was suffering from itchy fingers. The guitar legend wanted a break from his old band but soon needed to get back into action. Alvin decided to stage a special concert at London’s Rainbow Theatre backed by an all-star cast of musicians. They included Mel Collins (sax), Ian Wallace (drums), Tim Hinkley (keyboards), Alan Spenner (bass) and Neil Hubbard (guitar). The show was recorded and ‘In Flight’, reissued on this remastered double CD set, captures that event and it is packed with high energy performances. Alvin Lee recalls that historic night in an exclusive interview for liner notes. Among the 20 original LP tracks tracks is ‘Going Through The Door’ (“My attempt at writing a George Harrison-Dylan-esque type meaningful song!” says Alvin). Another highlight is a fine treatment of the old Elvis Presley hit ‘Mystery Train’…

The guitar maestro in cracking form on this hard rocking but richly varied album, which was Alvin’s first studio set after the break up of group Ten Years After. After many years on the road, he was in a mood to find freedom and work out with new musical mates, and as a result ‘Pump Iron’ is packed with fine performances. It was made at Alvin’s home studio in 1975 with keyboard player Tim Hinkley.

Although technically he never left, Alvin Lee is back. Recorded in 2003 at original Elvis guitarist Scotty Moore's Nashville home studio, with Moore as the mastermind behind the sessions (although due to ear problems he only plays on two tracks), along with Presley's drummer D.J. Fontana on the skins, this would be a listenable effort regardless of who was singing. With ex-Ten Years After's Alvin Lee playing guitar and taking the lead vocals it's a powerfully compelling disc that approximates many of the Sun label greats. Recorded predominantly live in the studio and sounding it, these songs - mostly originals written expressly for the sessions and an unexpectedly rip-snorting run through of the TYA chestnut "I'm Going Home" - find Lee at his most enthusiastic…

One of three acts (with Peter Gabriel and Paul Butterfield) on Rockpalast’s Third Rocknacht ("Rock Night") on 15th September, 1978 at the 10,000-capacity Grugahalle in Essen, recorded on the night of the famous Ali-Spinks heavyweight boxing match. Features legendary guitarist Alvin Lee in his only Rockpalast appearance, with backing musicians Tom Compton (drums) and Mick Hawksworth (bass). The Full 10-song set includes the Ten Years After Woodstock classic "I’m Going Home". Includes bonus unbroadcast tracks ‘Sweet Little Sixteen’ and 'Roll Over Beethoven' Alvin Lee post-show comment: "The best TV show I ever appeared in."

Alvin Lee always works with red hot drummers and one of the delights of this excellent album is the driving drum work of American funkster John Susswell, visiting England when Alvin was planning this 1978 solo effort. Vintage performances by the guitarist are sparked by a tasty rhythm section that includes stalwart bass player Alan Spenner. Ten top tracks written by Alvin include the intriguing ‘Chemicals, Chemistry, Mystery & More’.

Listen to the very first cut on Freefall and you'll understand the basic problem with the Alvin Lee Band: the track is a nice piece of mid-tempo rock, rather catchy, but is Alvin Lee in there anywhere? Repeated listenings reveal that he might be singing background vocals, and that guitar lead sounds like a slick studio player who listened to a few Ten Years After records one afternoon. From the sound of the whole track, the rest of the band had been listening to Foreigner. Not everything on this album is as anonymous as the first track, and some of it sounds pretty good. This band probably should have been called the Lee/Gould band, as former Rare Bird vocalist Steve Gould has at least as much to do with the sound of the band on those first few tracks.

By the time of 1986's Detroit Diesel, Alvin Lee had settled down somewhat. No longer were his songs simply showcases for his astonishingly fast technique, and he was able to open his blues jams into funky grooves. That doesn't mean that Detroit Diesel is a particuarly remarkable album, but it does have more enjoyable moments, such as the Stonesy "Too Late to Run for Cover," than the average latter-day Lee album.

Well, it was hot and new back in 1979 when this hard rockin’ album was first released. Ten Years Later was the group Alvin put together to replace Ten Years After, when he wanted to get back on the road after the original band split in 1974. Alvin teamed up with Tom Compton (drums) and Mick Hawksworth (bass), fine musicians who are featured on the ‘live’ and ‘studio’ recordings that comprised the original LP. The leader described the live recording featured as ‘A true and faithful recording of Ten Years Later on stage with no overdubs or effects’. You can hear Alvin and the boys get stuck into ‘Ain’t Nothin’ Shakin’, ‘Hey Joe’ and, of course, ‘Going Home’ - a blistering eight-minute version of the famed boogie shuffle. The other five tracks were recorded in Alvin’s Space Studio…
