Jordi Savall Born on the 1st August 1941 in Igualada (Barcelona province, Spain), Jordi Savall i Bernadet is a cellist, violist, choir director, orchestra leader, and composer. His repertoire spans music dating from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, and from the Baroque period until the nineteenth century. Savall was married to the Spanish soprano Montserrat Figueras from 1968 until her death in November 2011, and is the father of Arianna and Ferran Savall; both singers and musicians.

Manhattan born pianist Spike Wilner was inspired to play ragtime at a young age after seeing a docudrama on the life of Scott Joplin. This led to a life-long passion for piano playing, ragtime and jazz music in general. Spike made his performance debut at the age of fourteen playing Joplin at the St. Louis Ragtime Festival. Wilner has since performed with and has led many bands in New York City at many famous jazz clubs including The Village Gate, The Angry Squire, Visiones, Augies, The West End Gate and The Village Corner. He also toured with The Artie Shaw Big Band, The Glen Miller Orchestra and Maynard Ferguson. His new SmallsLIVE album shows the depth and keen intellect present in all his performances.

Art Pepper’s third album on the Contemporary Records label, “Gettin’ Together” was released in 1960. Featuring a selection of both standards and originals the album also includes Conte Candoli (trumpet), Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Jimmy Cobb (drums). This new edition, released as part of the Acoustic Sounds Series, features (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP, and presented in a tip-on jacket.

The second recording and first studio set by the L.A. Four matched together Bud Shank on alto and flute, guitarist Laurindo Almeida, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Shelly Manne for a diverse yet consistently enjoyable program. The selections range from "Dindi" and "Manteca" to "St. Thomas" and a 13-minute exploration of "Concierto de Aranjuez." As usual, the band mixes together bossa nova and Brazilian jazz, some touches of classical music, and cool-toned bop. Recommended as a strong example of the group's appealing sound.

This CD from 2002 delivers 68 minutes of dense electronic music by Detlef Keller (whose frequent collaborations with Mario Schönwälder have made the pair's music a mainstay in the European electronic music genre and concert scene). Here, we get to hear Keller's solo accomplishments, which are purely and respectfully cut in the Berlin School of Electronics mode. Densely layered textures emerge from darkness, drenched with somber sentiments and languid tonalities. The music gradually evolves power and structure with vibrating pulsations that lend rhythm, while the keyboard cycles accelerate with sportive determination. Light and airy tuneage grows more mature with each turn, becoming almost frenzied by the time E-perc appears to lend complexity to the driving sequencing. This release features only three tracks (two of which exceed 25 minutes each), allowing the melodies to flourish to incredible intensity.
