For the T. Rex fanatic – and, chances are, if you own more than two albums by Marc Bolan, you are – Acoustic Warrior is a fascinating collection, boasting 15 previously unreleased acoustic takes on such classic songs as "20th Century Boy," "Get It On," "Telegram Sam," "Metal Guru," "Jeepster," "Ballrooms of Mars," "Slider" and "Cosmic Dancer." There are no real revelations and the sound quality is a bit uneven, but there's a ragged charm to these recordings that makes it worth seeking out for hardcore fans.

Joan Baez is a Mexican-born American citizen born in 1941 in New York. His father is a physics teacher and his mother tells a drama story at university. There were also ministers in the ascending branches of his family. She studied guitar at Boston University and gained a thorough but not virtuoso guitar knowledge. She began to take folk music more seriously around 1958. He accompanied his excellent singing voice with the playing of his acoustic guitar. Her first major performance was in 1959 at the Newport Folk Festival. Her talent was noticed by the Vanguard company and they soon found contact with each other. Shortly after the contract was signed, her first album, named after the singer, was released. On this disc is the song We Shall Overcome, which has become the anthem of left-wing youth because of what she has to say. In 1963, there was a massive demonstration in Vashington; the enthusiastic crowd sang We Shall Overcome. With her current politically charged songs, she became the number one folk protest singer in the US. In the 1960s, she worked with the country’s greatest folk musician, Bob Dylan.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ben Harper began his career with the solo acoustic debut Welcome to the Cruel World. Childhood Home takes Harper back to his roots – literally: he recorded it in collaboration with his mother, Ellen Harper. There isn't an electric instrument on this ten-song set, which features six new tunes by him and four by her. There are a trio of other players who help out on piano, guitar, and upright bass…

Bob Seger's Mongrel may have been a terrific album, but nobody heard it, just like its predecessor. So Capitol was ready to drop him and wanted a contract-fulfilling album as soon as possible. Seger delivered the low-key, introspective Brand New Morning to get out of the deal. Later he claimed that the album was a collection of demos released somewhat against his will, but listening to the record it's hard to believe that these intimate yet fully realized songs were bare-bone work versions…

After teasing listeners with the enigmatic Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole EP earlier in the year, singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright comes clean with a lush, eponymous debut that should secure herself a place as one of the genre's finest young practitioners. BMFA, despite its headline-grabbing title, showed an artist of considerable depth and vision, attributes that she builds on tenfold with her first foray into full-length territory. Wainwright tears through words the way her mother, Kate McGarrigle, does, inserting mischievous pauses, experimenting with cadences, or sometimes just pulling the phrase out like a wad of taffy, while all of the while in complete control of the overall narrative. On the gorgeous opener, "Far Away," she waxes nostalgic for old friends and lovers. Backed by swirling guitars and piano she pines "I have no children/I have no husband/I have no reason to be alive/Oh give me one" without seeming the least bit ruined – a poetic knack that she uses effectively throughout the record's entirety.

Despite having the same name, this double CD by Neil Young is not the studio album Silver And Gold, but a bootleg CD released by The Swingin' Pig in 1994. It primarily consists of a great soundboard recording of a show on 22 March, 1992 at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. One song is from 23 March, 1992, another done on 24 March, 1992, you can look up the information yourself.

This release has much more in common with a previous solo acoustic offering, ‘Devil Moon’. The material is often low key, with just McFadden’s picked guitar and whispered vocals weaving a dark narration. Album opener ‘Headed for the Light’ and ‘Long Way Down’ are typical; and later the country-speckled/Carole King-like ‘I’ll Be Anything for You’ pulses through a similar vein.

Whitesnake's grip on the U.S. record-buying public may have lessened considerably by the late '90s, but in other parts of the world (especially Japan), David Coverdale and company still reigned supreme. Keeping in step with the unplugged craze of the decade, Coverdale and longtime guitarist Adrian Vandenberg united for such a performance in the land of the rising sun, resulting in the release of 1998's Starkers in Tokyo. Anyone wondering if Coverdale can still cut it vocally all these years later will be pleasantly surprised – the bloke can still sing splendidly, as the duo perform selections from throughout the singer's career.

She Who Dwells in the Secret Place of the Most High Shall Abide Under the Shadow of the Almighty (yeah, it's a mouthful, but at least it's not Fiona Apple's monolith), was reportedly Sinead O' Connor's final album – it wasn't – as she seeks another way of life as a spiritual pilgrim, O'Connor delved deep into her rare, B-side, unreleased, and compilation tracks and gives listeners a live album to boot over two discs. Released stateside on Vanguard, this is, despite its disparate nature, one of the most satisfying recordings she's ever delivered – the previous year's Sean-Nós Nua, her traditional album, was a knockout and perhaps her finest studio moment, but it went unnoticed here because Americans can't seem to forgive O'Connor for exercising her right to free speech (the audience at Bob Dylan's 30th anniversary concert should be especially ashamed). The studio sides released on disc one include her collaborations with everyone from Adrian Sherwood to the Asian Dub Foundation to Massive Attack to Roger Eno. Her covers of Dan Penn's "Do Right Woman," Boudleaux Bryant's "Love Hurts," and the B-52's' "Ain't It a Shame" are highly original, deeply moving, and satisfying. Her originals, such as "No Matter How Hard I Try," "Love Is Ours," "This Is a Rebel Song," and "Emma's Song," are eclipsed only by her readings of traditional Gaelic material. Her arrangements and those of her collaborators are top-flight. There are 19 cuts in all on disc one, and not a moribund moment in the bunch.

Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound from the original analog master tapes to vinyl and PCM. Tea For The Tillerman is one of Cat Stevens' finest albums and a gem in the crown of early 1970s singer/songwriter. Stevens manages to have his cake and eat it too, simultaneously achieving pop accessibility and artistic relevance. The feel is decidedly gentle and spare. Apart from the occasional string section, Stevens is accompanied only by a three-piece band as he sings his introspective lyrics with appreciable favor.
