LeAnn Rimes (born August 28, 1982) is an American singer. Rimes rose to stardom at age 13 following the release of her version of the Bill Mack song "Blue", becoming the youngest country music star since Tanya Tucker in 1972. Rimes made her breakthrough into country music in 1996 with her debut album, Blue, which reached No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart and was certified multi-platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album's eponymous leadoff single, "Blue", became a Top 10 hit and Rimes gained national acclaim for her similarity to Patsy Cline's vocal style. When she released her second studio album in 1997, You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs, she moved towards country pop material, which set the trend for a string of albums released into the next decade. Rimes has won many awards, including two Grammys, three ACMs, a CMA, 12 Billboard Music Awards, and one American Music award. The collection includes studio albums from 1996 to 2007, and two compilations.

For her 34th studio album, Anne Murray recorded a set of duets with many of her favorite female singers, from Nelly Furtado to Sarah Brightman. There are a number of country duet partners here, such as Shania Twain, Emmylou Harris, and Martina McBride, but there are even more pop-oriented women singing with Murray, encompassing the likes of Celtic Woman and Celine Dion. This makes perfect sense, as Murray's always straddled the pop-country fence effortlessly. Her singing on Duets: Friends and Legends is just as effortless. Now in her fifth decade as an active recording artist, her voice hasn't lost a beat, sounding just as pure and clear as it did on 1970s "Snowbird" (done here with a surprisingly relaxed, easy vocal from Brightman, sounding for all the world like a young Olivia Newton-John). The majority of these songs are ones which have been sizeable hits for Murray in the past, most of which work nicely recast as duets, or at least showcases for harmony singing.

Genre: Country, Rockabillys, Rock and Roll

Although Wanda Jackson will always be best remembered for her fiery rockers of the 1950s, the truth is that Wanda started her career singing country music and, despite a brief flirtation with rockabilly, she made her living from country music for most of the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. This compilation draws tracks from her early mid-1950s recordings to her excellent country recordings of the early 1960s, focusing on Wanda's ballad style. These tracks are as great as they're sadly overlooked, in fact the case can be made that if Wanda had never recorded her rocking tracks, she would have been known as one of the greatest country female singers, afforded the same respect as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton. This collection includes her biggest hit, Right Or Wrong, and many other great recordings in the ballad style. Once again, Bear Family offers you something unique you won't find anywhere else!

The "horse named Texas," after which Aaron Watson names his new double album, featuring its face painted in the colors and star of the national flag on the cover, is a symbol the Amarillo-born country singer-songwriter uses to talk about himself, comparing himself to a cowboy who, on the back of an honest and reliable animal, has come a long way, from dusty small-town honky-tonks to great national and international fame. It is the cornerstone of his most ambitious album yet, a collection of 26 new songs, all of which bear his signature: written with Lukas Scott and Troy Cartwright, the sentimental "Old Houses" pays homage to his founding values (faith, family, and friends), while "Pontiac (So Tell Me Momma)" gallops at full speed, and the moving "Gone Fishin'" imagines lost loved ones in a parallel, more serene universe.

Ralph Stanley While he preferred the term "mountain music" to "bluegrass," Ralph Stanley ranked second only to Bill Monroe in his importance to the genre. A pioneering clawhammer banjoist and riveting singer, Stanley shot to prominence with his brother Carter and the Clinch Mountain Boys in the '40s and '50s. After Carter's death in 1966, Ralph soldiered on, riding waves of popularity in the '60s folk revival and the '70s bluegrass festival scene. In 2000, his a cappella rendering of "O Death" became the musical centerpiece of the Coen brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? film and earned Stanley his biggest sales.Born in Stratton, Virginia in 1927, Ralph Stanley and his older brother Carter formed the Stanley Brothers and the Clinch Mountain Boys. In 1946 Ralph and Carter were being broadcast from radio station WCYB in Bristol, Virginia. The music, which was inspired by their Virginia mountain home, was encouraged by their mother, who taught Ralph the clawhammer style of banjo picking.

Genre: Pop/Rock, Rock & Roll, Rockabilly, Country

Roy Orbison Although he shared the same rockabilly roots as Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison went on to pioneer an entirely different brand of country/pop-based rock & roll in the early '60s. What he lacked in charisma and photogenic looks, Orbison made up for in spades with his quavering operatic voice and melodramatic narratives of unrequited love and yearning. In the process, he established rock & roll archetypes of the underdog and the hopelessly romantic loser. These were not only amplified by peers such as Del Shannon and Gene Pitney, but also influenced future generations of roots rockers such as Bruce Springsteen and Chris Isaak, as well as modern country stars the Mavericks.Orbison made his first widely distributed recordings for Sun Records in 1956. Roy was a capable rockabilly singer, and had a small national hit with his first Sun single, "Ooby Dooby." But even then, he was far more comfortable as a ballad singer than as a hepped-up rockabilly jive cat.

Dolly Parton It's difficult to find a country performer who has moved from her country roots to international fame more successfully than Dolly Parton. Her autobiographical single "Coat of Many Colors" reveals the poverty of growing up one of 12 children on a rundown farm in Locust Ridge, Tennessee. At the age of 12, she was appearing on Knoxville television; at 13, she was recording on a small label and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry. Her 1967 hit "Dumb Blonde" (which she's not) caught Porter Wagoner's ear, and he hired Parton to appear on his television show, where their duet numbers became famous. By the time her song "Joshua" reached number one in 1970, Parton's fame had overshadowed her boss' and she struck out on her own. During the mid-'70s, she established herself as a country superstar, and crossed over into the pop mainstream in the early '80s when she smoothed out the rough edges in her music and began singing pop as well as country.
