Having made an enormous contribution to the establishment of the Nashville Sound and the modernisation of country music, Anita Kerr felt the need to expand her artistic horizons and in 1965, made the move from Nashville to Hollywood. She wanted to work with different people, to get her own songs recorded, to play jazz, to conduct an orchestra, to take on more ambitious and more varied projects musically, and to form a vocal group which, rather than be confined to studio sessions, might also appear in club and concert settings. Her arrival on the West Coast was well timed. She had just fought off The Beatles to win a Grammy for the album We Dig Mancini and she was quickly able to assemble a stellar Anita Kerr Singers (B.J Baker: alto, Gene Merlino: tenor; Bob Tebow: bass, with Anita herself as soprano and soloist) and secure a contract more tailored to her needs with Warner Brothers. LeAnn Rimes (born August 28, 1982) is an American singer. Rimes rose to stardom at age 13 following the release of her version of the Bill Mack song "Blue", becoming the youngest country music star since Tanya Tucker in 1972. Rimes made her breakthrough into country music in 1996 with her debut album, Blue, which reached No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart and was certified multi-platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album's eponymous leadoff single, "Blue", became a Top 10 hit and Rimes gained national acclaim for her similarity to Patsy Cline's vocal style. When she released her second studio album in 1997, You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs, she moved towards country pop material, which set the trend for a string of albums released into the next decade. Rimes has won many awards, including two Grammys, three ACMs, a CMA, 12 Billboard Music Awards, and one American Music award. The collection includes studio albums from 1996 to 2007, and two compilations.

Portraits is a three-disc, 61-track box set covering Emmylou Harris' entire career for Reprise and Warner Records, which spans from 1974 to 1992. Not only does the box select highlights from classic albums like Luxury Liner, Roses in the Snow, and Blue Kentucky Girl, but it also features her early duets with Gram Parsons and selections from the Trio album she recorded with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt. Portraits doesn't dwell too long on unreleased material – there are only five unearthed tracks on the entire set – preferring to sketch out a full overview of her career. While there might be a few favorite tracks missing, the box nevertheless fulfills its goals quite nicely – anyone looking for a comprehensive compilation of Emmylou's career will not be disappointed.

Taking this album's title quite literally, Dolly Parton takes a sharp right from her previous few albums of progressive bluegrass. In the wake of the Iraq war, Parton wanted to record a tribute to the soldiers fighting for America. Ironically, after recently recording countrified versions of songs like "Stairway to Heaven," Parton delivers these patriotic songs in a completely straightforward fashion. Other than the inherent twang of her pristine voice, there's little country flavor added to the arrangements here. The like of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and "The Star Spangled Banner" are delivered in a traditional, militaristic manner. The flag-wavers that fell from Parton's own pen, however, can't help but display the country legend's musical roots, and it's these that are the ultimate standouts.

Now in her fifth decade as an active recording artist, her voice hasn't lost a beat, sounding just as pure and clear as it did on 1970s "Snowbird" (done here with a surprisingly relaxed, easy vocal from Brightman, sounding for all the world like a young Olivia Newton-John). The majority of these songs are ones which have been sizeable hits for Murray in the past, most of which work nicely recast as duets, or at least showcases for harmony singing.

Our Hank Snow retrospective has been one of the most widely applauded projects we've undertaken. Here is the beginning of one of the most amazing careers in country music. It began in the RCA studios in Montreal in 1936. At first, Hank was under the influence of Jimmie Rodgers, but quickly found his own voice and style. These incredibly rare recordings have never been brought together in one place before. The Hank Snow legend begins here. Creedence Clearwater Revival As the tumultuous 1960s crashed into the '70s, few American bands could match the fevered output, unified vision, and consistent hit-making ability of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Despite hailing from Northern California, bandleader John Fogerty rooted his imagination in the Deep South, fusing vivid Southern imagery with a distinctive brand of rock & roll that combined swamp pop, blues, R&B, and country. Viewed as outliers in the Bay Area's overwhelmingly psychedelic music scene, CCR's punchy roots rock delivery, blue-collar work ethic, and comparative sobriety helped them quickly surpass their peers and become one of the most prolific and popular bands in the country. In 1969 alone they produced three major albums, headlined the Woodstock Festival, and introduced iconic songs like "Proud Mary" and "Fortunate Son" into the cultural lexicon. The latter of the two went on to become one of the defining protest songs of the Vietnam War, followed closely by "Run Through the Jungle" and "Bad Moon Rising," which, while not written about the war, nonetheless tapped into the nation's zeitgeist and had a similar resonance. Their creative and commercial success peaked with 1970's Cosmo's Factory, a rock solid chart-topper that housed massive hits like "Up Around the Bend" and "Lookin' Out My Back Door." Like many great bands, CCR's star burned brightly for a relatively short period before in-fighting and contention led to their breakup in 1972. In spite of ongoing feuds and protracted legal battles with their record label, the band's legacy grew over the following decades as their music became a definitive touchstone of American classic rock. SUPERB RADIO BROADCAST RECORDING FROM EMMYLOU HARRIS & SPYBOY Formed for the Emmylou Harris tour that promoted and performed songs from her 1995 career-redefining album, Wrecking Ball, country trio Spyboy - namely Buddy Miller on electric guitar and backing vocals, Daryl Johnson on electric bass, bass pedals, djembe, percussion and backing vocals, and Brady Blade on drums, percussion and backing vocals - were country music royalty to a man, led by the Queen of the genre. The tour included a number of shows in the US during 1997 and 1998, and a few more in Europe. On December 6th 98 the ensemble played at New York s legendary Bottom Line club, a gig that was recorded for live FM Broadcast across the country. Featuring a set that included a number of tracks from Wrecking Ball, alongside a host of Emmylou classics, this previously unreleased concert is now available in its entirety on this CD.

Emmylou Harris Blessed with a crystalline voice, a remarkable gift for phrasing, and a restless creative spirit, few artists had as profound an impact on contemporary music as Emmylou Harris. She traveled a singular artistic path, proudly carrying the torch of "cosmic American music" passed down by her mentor, Gram Parsons, which made a profound mark on both country and rock. Beginning as a folk singer in New York City, Harris released her first album in 1970, only to see it disappear with the bankruptcy of her record label. But a year later, she was playing a folk club in Washington D.C. when Chris Hillman saw her perform, and he recommended her to his former bandmate Gram Parsons. Harris would contribute superb vocals to Parsons' solo albums, 1972's G.P. and 1974's Grievous Angel, and he would be her guide in country music until his death in September 1973.
