Magnum are an English rock band from Birmingham. Formed as a four piece by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter), Bob Catley (vocals), Kex Gorin (drums) and Bob Doyle (bass) in order to appear as the resident band at The Rum Runner night club in Birmingham. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.

After having released the first album, Fasano and Poley left the band. Poley joined the group Danger Danger as its lead vocalist and bandleader. Prophet then invited Russell Arcara (vocals) and Michael Sterlacci (drums & vocals) to join. During this period the band was managed by Noel Monk, who previously managed Van Halen. This lineup recorded the band's second album Cycle of the Moon for Megaforce/Atlantic. This album is considered the most important by the group and peaked at 137 on the Billboard 200.

Vocalist/guitarist Roger Hodgson must have really felt stifled toward the end of his tenure in Supertramp in the early '80s – despite co-writing and singing many of the band's biggest hits – because his solo debut, 1984's In the Eye of the Storm, is a remarkable work of explosive creativity…

Night was a loose, L.A.-based band, whose personnel were veteran British-based session musicians, including Stevie Lange, who sang behind Graham Bonnet and Elton John; Chris Thompson, who contributed to War of the Worlds and worked for Manfred Mann's Earth Band; and keyboard wizard Nicky Hopkins, who played with everybody.
