The songbook craze wheels around to the compositions of Keith Jarrett, which ought to be an oxymoron since we're dealing with an artist who usually makes up things on the wing. Yet it works, for not only does this package isolate and spotlight some nice tunes by the prolific pianist; it also honors his eclectic bent by roaming all over the spectrum in search of diverse idioms. Bruce Hornsby is delightfully funky on piano in a second-line New Orleans treatment of "Backhand," which goes through some riotous passages. Pianist Chucho Valdes bumps through "U Dance" with the unorthodox help of baritone saxophonist Jay Rodriguez, while guitarist John Scofield is relaxed as he meanders through "Coral.".

The english title of this 15-track compilation is in fact "Asian Café", and gathers 15 tracks from KITARO's solo albums, up to the great "Ancient" and "An Ancient Journey" albums. It also includes 2 tracks from the "Kitaro's World Of Music Featuring Yu-Xiao Guang" album. As is the tradition with most of KITARO's albums, the tracks are generally linked without pause in sound. This album covers many albums from the "Geffen" label era, without presenting anything unreleased… It makes for an expensive "best of", so perhaps a more affordable album like "Ten Years" or "Thinking Of You" makes for a better introduction this to this man's spiritual music…

Although it's missing a few important (not to mention big) hits, Greatest Hits, Vols. 1 & 2 is an excellent retrospective of the first half of Billy Joel's career. Beginning with "Piano Man," the first disc runs through a number of early songs before arriving at the hit-making days of the late '70s; some of these songs, including "Captain Jack" and "New York State of Mind," weren't strictly hits, but were popular numbers within his stage show and became radio hits. Once the songs from The Stranger arrive halfway through the first disc, there's no stopping the hits (although "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant," an album track from The Stranger, manages its way onto the collection). In fact, over the next disc and a half, there's so many hits, it's inevitable that some are left off – to be specific, "Honesty," "Sometimes a Fantasy," "An Innocent Man," "Leave a Tender Moment," and "Keeping the Faith" aren't included.

In the year in which Toquinho celebrates his 70th birthday and 40 years of career, marked by his first solo LP, Discobertas brings together the solo albums that the guitarist, singer and composer released in his first 10 years of solo work. In parallel with the rich discography as a duo with Vinicius de Moraes, at that time Toquinho began a solid solo career - to which we think it is fair to add the rare special project 'Botequim', a unique partnership with Gianfrancesco Guarnieri and featuring the singer Marlene.

This is in fact a very strong debut album by this 90's Italian symphonic prog band. It's much in the spirit of the 70's masters, but they are presenting here really their very own style. Musicianship is excellent and there is a broad spectrum of instruments used, like acoustic and electric guitars, flute, sax, piano and different keyboard sounds. The songs are sometimes rather lengthy featuring multiple parts which are often very much different from each other.

Again this album from Major Records and re-flexion is filled with previously unreleased, exclusive and rara mixes from some of the biggest and promising bands of the electronic music scene. Contributions from chartbreaker such as Apootygma Berzerk, Moby or Yazoo, scene legends like Covenant or IAMX and promising newcomers such as Emmon or Universal Poplab will make your electronic heart beat.
