The British experimental ambient unit O Yuki Conjugate was formed in Nottingham in 1982 by multi-instrumentalists Andrew Hulme and Roger Horberry; inspired by the atmospheric guitar instrumentals of the Durutti Column, they began experimenting with keyboards and tape loops, adding percussion to the mix before debuting with the soundscapes of 1984's Scene in Mirage.
Tropic is a reworking of lost, forgotten and unreleased O Yuki Conjugate tracks recorded in London in 1994-95, with processing and post-rationalisation completed during 2015-16…

TimeScapes was the first 4k movie, featuring stunning time-lapse footage from Tom Lowe, the Astronomy Photographer of the Year. This album is immersive, dramatic, and engaging, without becoming maudlin. Stanford avoids tropes and simple repetition to weave compelling tone poems that evolve and develop - in the best tradition of Heart of Space.

Dmitriy Red'ko aka AstroPilot, has outdone himself again with "Iriy". On this album and his EP 'Midgard-Earth,' AstroPilot introduced us with magical symbolism to fit his new compositions and mood. Portraying a series of serious, synonymous, rich, and extremely well-polished levels of production done in 432Hz tuning. Dmitriy continues to redefine his signature sound through his inspiration of the symbolic sight within. We can all prophesy that there will never be an AstroPilot album to sound the same…

New Age, Instrumental, World Fusion | Label: Columbia | # COL 485165 2 | 00:36:28

Andreas Vollenweider's Grammy-winning effort is dominated by the Swiss musician's electrically modified harp. Its distinctive sound runs throughout the album, supported by the usual tinkering synthesizer effects and light percussion. After an extended introductory interlude, the title track zips into a vaguely Caribbean-styled rhythm. "Water Moon" features a different, more organic harp sound; it's mixed with the windy tones of a flute, suggesting ghostly moonshafts lancing through falling rain. Vollenweider plays the harp strings off of guitar strings on the surprisingly twangy (for new age, anyway) "Drown in Pale Light." The composer weaves the album's instrumentals together with a goody bag of pan-ethnic influences; the album's margins are full of these little touches that nevertheless make a big difference. Down to the Moon will appeal to anyone looking for music that's as interesting as it is soothing.

Genre: Electronic, Ambient | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Kompakt

The 2017 installment of Kompakt's ever-reliable Pop Ambient series serves up a typical assortment of wintry, occasionally somber, always reflective ambient pieces. The first few selections are the most experimental, with shifting and stirring sounds buried underneath the glacial synthesizer pads and twinkling pianos. Kenneth James Gibson's "Her Flood Knocked Me to the Ground (But I Was Already There)" features grainy static and dub echo that has been filtered down to crumbs, but atop the crackle sits a soft pulse and hazy slide guitar. Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt provides a remix of Soulsavers' "Hal," which sprinkles delicate pianos over dramatic strings, underpinned by a sporadic slapping noise…

How I Live Now is the big screen adaptation of the award-winning young adult novel by Meg Rosoff, directed by acclaimed Academy Award winning director Kevin McDonald (The Last King Of Scotland, Marley). The original soundtrack is scored by Jon Hopkins, composer, producer and longterm collaborator of Brian Eno and Coldplay. Featuring some of his darkest, most nihilistic work to date, the score is built from two contrasting elements - atonal, sub-terrestrial drones with a backbone of pounding rhythms, and sublimely pastoral acoustic piano. These two opposing musical forces guide the viewer through the film, by turns disturbing and beautifully meditative. The centrepiece of the score is the track The Hawk, a timeless and heartbreaking theme that recurs throughout the film.

Liquid Mind is an alias used by Los Angeles-based composer/producer/instrumentalist Chuck Wild, who was born and raised in Kansas City, studying classical piano and singing in both a cappella groups and choirs. His love for music only intensified as he studied music history at the University of Kansas, where he also sang in the university choir. He next spent four years in the U.S. Navy and in 1979 he relocated to L.A., where he joined up with the new wave band Missing Persons, playing on their early albums.

In 2016 I undertook a ‘quiet odyssey’ across four Australian cities (Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne), searching out and mapping quiet spaces in and amongst these built environments. I wanted to discover as many zones of quiet or retreat in these cities and make compositions in response to these locations. I created maps and listening walks that took me from space to space. My desire was to ask a simple question: can you find a way to release yourself, if only temporarily, from the noise of the world? This collection is a sonic memorial to these spaces and a musical act of quiet preservation.

Here's a promising setup: start with the legendary, inimitable Krautrock outfit Faust and get the equally idiosyncratic Nurse With Wound to produce and mix. Faust was among the most adventurous and creative German bands of the 70s, and after disappearing for a decade and a half, they reunited in the 90s and made several startlingly good albums. Today, drummer Werner 'Zappi' Diermaier and bassist Jean-Hervé Peron are the only original members, joined by Amaury Cambuzat from the band Ulan Bator. Nurse With Wound, formed three decades ago, is the brainchild of Steven Stapleton, now augmented with Colin Potter; NWW recordings are notoriously varied, often sprawling, haunting, and strange, with a love of musique concrète and disquieting sounds…

Reissue of Brian Eno’s critically acclaimed 1993 single-track album. Named after the precious sensual oil derived from the flowers of the Seville orange, Neroli is more than any other Eno work intrinsically linked with the idea of perfume and fragrance. The piece is formed from a single Phrygian mode melody which Eno constructs and deconstructs throughout the work with the subtle flair that has become his trademark.
