The most popular folk group of the 1960s, Peter, Paul and Mary in later decades have also proved themselves to be among the most durable music acts in history. Their longevity dwarfs that of the Weavers, while the fact that the trio continues to be associated with a major record label (Warner Bros.) after decades in the business sets them apart from rivals like the Kingston Trio and the Brothers Four. Then again, perhaps it isn't so surprising – Peter, Paul and Mary's roots run deeper than almost any other folk act one might care to name, while their appeal crosses audience lines that other acts couldn't (and can't) even approach.

In Spain between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries the term tiento (or tento in Portuguese) denoted an instrumental form akin to the Italian ricercare. Whereas in Italy the ricercari were written mainly for keyboard instruments (harpsichord, clavichord, organ) or for the lute, in Spain the tiento was cultivated not only by keyboard players but also – very extensively – by performers on the vihuela.

Swimming by Moonlight is a new Chet Baker album that draws from previously unreleased material recorded near the end of his life. From 1986–1987, Chet traveled and worked with the photographer and filmmaker Bruce Weber on a project that would become their Oscar-nominated documentary Let's Get Lost [1988]. During this period, Chet performed in Cannes, France and recorded sessions at Studio Davout in Paris and Sage and Sound Studio in Hollywood.

Recorded in June and July 1976 at Abbey Road Studios, MODERN MUSIC was the fourth album by Be Bop Deluxe and the second to feature the line-up of BILL NELSON (vocals, guitars, keyboards), CHARLES TUMAHAI (bass, vocals), ANDY CLARK (keyboards) and SIMON FOX (drums). A top twenty hit in the UK, the album followed on from the success and critical praise for the band’s previous album SUNBURST FINISH and was once more co-produced by BILL NELSON and JOHN LECKIE. Much of the material appearing on the album was conceived by Bill Nelson whilst Be Bop Deluxe were undertaking their first tour of the USA in March 1976.

Backed by a 50-piece orchestra, Simone recorded the material that would comprise A Single Woman with producer Andre Fischer (Natalie Cole’s then-husband and former drummer for the band Rufus.) The ten tracks chosen from the sessions were revelatory, weaving songs about love in the style only Nina Simone could conceive and deliver. Simone recorded more material during the sessions, including covers of Bob Dylan, Prince, The Beatles, and Bob Marley, pointing to a potential follow up, but—sadly, A Single Woman would be her final studio album before her passing in 2003. A Single Woman was reissued in 2006, adding seven of those performances left behind.

Johann Sebastian Bach, though largely unaffected by the trends of his time, reimagined many older forms with striking originality, shaping the course of Western music. Among his innovations is the sonata for a melodic instrument (such as the viola da gamba) and obbligato harpsichord, where both parts engage in equal dialogue—a model later expanded by his sons and composers like Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.
