This CD features Dukes of Dixieland great, clarinetist Jerry Fuller, leading a sextet composed of Los Angeles musicians Gene Estes, Howard Roberts, Bob Florence, Frank Capp, Mel Pollin. The music is mainly swing and modern jazz, although there is one Dixieland tune, That's Aplenty, included for good measure. The 10 selections include seven standards, "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You", "That's Aplenty", "On Green Dolphin Street", "Judy", "On Green Dolphin Street", "Somebody Loves Me", "Makin' Whoopee", and "Georgia". The three original compositions are modern jazz pieces, with elements of swing, bebop and cool jazz thrown in. Recording was made in March of 1959 and is Jerry's first session as a leader.

With powerhouse pipes, razor-sharp wit, and a tireless commitment to self-love and self-care, Lizzo is the fearless pop star we needed. Born Melissa Jefferson in Detroit, the singer and classically trained flautist discovered an early gift for music (“It chose me,” she tells Apple Music) and began recording in Minneapolis shortly after high school. But her trademark self-confidence came less naturally. “I had to look deep down inside myself to a really dark place to discover it,” she says. Perhaps that’s why her third album, Cuz I Love You, sounds so triumphant, with explosive horns (“Cuz I Love You”), club drums (“Tempo” featuring Missy Elliott), and swaggering diva attitude (“No, I'm not a snack at all/Look, baby, I’m the whole damn meal,” she howls on the instant hit “Juice"). But her brand is about more than mic-drop zingers and big-budget features. On songs like “Better in Color”—a stomping, woke plea for people of all stripes to get together—she offers an important message: It’s not enough to love ourselves, we also have to love each other.

Even though they just launched Max Hazard, AMT actually already had its own label ever since 1998 simply called Acid Mothers Temple and they also released a new album recently: a split CD with US band Kinski. They already did a split together back in 2003 and Kinski and AMT leader Makoto Kawabata also recorded a track together in 2015 that was released on a split 7″ with Kikagaku Moyo. This new, untitled album, limited to 300 copies, contains five tracks from the US band and two from AMT, including yet another version of Blue Velvet Blues, that also appears on “How Was…”.

Crafted in tandem with the Gost Zvuk affiliate Flaty, the Moscow producer’s second album balances streamlined electro pop with a hint of rave mayhem.

With the release of This Way, Acoustic Alchemy's guitarists Greg Carmichael and Miles Gilderdale celebrate a remarkable two decades since Red Dust & Spanish Lace established the British ensemble as an ever-evolving powerhouse of contemporary jazz. Carmichael and Gilderdale's natural chemistry is very apparent on this set of loose and spirited songs, as is the soloing by the complementing musicians on such jazzy tracks as "Egg," which has a very British, blues-drenched, straight-ahead sound. By contrast, "Ernie" has an exotic Latin jazz flavor complete with great solos by Terry Disley, Jeff Kashiwa, and trombonist Dennis Rollins. Rick Braun makes a guest appearance on "Carlos the King," a racy rock, Latin, and blues fusion that also features Gilderdale's electric guitar and Greg Grainger's percussive energy.

The Furnaces of Palingenesia is the title of the upcoming Deathspell Omega album, announced in anti-mainstream mysterious way via a bandcamp post. Recorded live and mixed on all analog gear, it is scheduled for release on May 24th via Norma Evangelium Diaboli.

Koan is the Duo comprised of Daniel Roeth and William Grey, and are based in Moscow, Russia. Daniel had been spinning vinyl since 1993 in local clubs; mainly Acid and Hard Techno. In 1995 he met William, who already had some experience in music making and sampler technologies. Together they founded two projects, "Koan" for Downtempo and "Vacuum Stalkers" for more Progressive/Tech stuff. Daniel soon left his career as a DJ and put all of his energy into the studio work. William took on the role of Sampler Programming/Producer. During 1995-2005 they wrote and recorded a lot of tracks, some of which disappeared in time bubbles and some of which were released and had a lot of success in local Moscow clubs. The real success came after the release of their first album "Talking Stones" (2005) and their second album release "The Signs" (2005).

Destrage‘s fifth studio album has officially been christened “The Chosen One” and will be released on May 24th via Metal Blade Records. A handful of guests also grace the album, including Luca Mai of Zu lending saxophone to “Mr Bugman” and helping out on “At The Cost Of Pleasure“, Fabio Visocchi aided with the keyboards on “At The Cost Of Pleasure” and “The Gifted One“, while Fabrizio Pagni assisted on electronics and programming throughout the record. “The Chosen One” was co-produced by the band and Matteo Tabacco and mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur (Lamb Of God, Gojira).

The challenge for any smooth jazz artist over time is appeasing longtime fans with certain stylistic similarities, yet searching for ways to keep things unique and distinctive with each successive album. Guitarists Nick Webb and Greg Carmichael (the principals in Acoustic Alchemy) kept the reference point of their steel and nylon string chemistry intact while always venturing the new agey jazz trappings they became accustomed to. Their fifth album features sojourns into reggae, flamenco, blues, country-rock, samba, and jazz improvisation, adding up to their most styistically diverse outing up till that time.
