Eddie and the Cruisers is a 1983 American film directed by Martin Davidson based on the novel by P.F. Kluge. The story concerns the mysterious death of a fictional '60s rock star. Though the film received mixed reviews when it first opened in theaters it was rereleased nine months later on cable TV with great success. After screenings on HBO in 1984, the album suddenly climbed the charts, going quadruple platinum. The main song in the film, "On the Dark Side," was the number one song in the country on Billboard's Mainstream, Rock, and Heatseeker charts; and #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Another single from the film, "Tender Years," peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100. John Cafferty was hired to write a few songs for the film based on Davidson’s description of his fictitious band and their music. Initially, he said that the Cruisers sounded like Dion and The Belmonts, but with elements of Jim Morrison and The Doors. The Cruisers were essentially a Jersey bar band, and he thought of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The film needed music that contained elements of these three bands. Cafferty did such a good job of capturing the feeling of the 1960s and 1980s that Davidson asked him to score the entire film. Only Michael "Tunes" Antunes, the tenor saxophone player for the Beaver Brown Band, and Helen Schneider were professional musicians in the cast.

PODE is a beautiful, adorable game from a terrific Norwegian studio (Henchman & Goon) led by the wonderful Yngvill Hopen. Quite some time ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Yngvill and very casually agreed to help out with her game. When the time came years after to take a look in more detail, I was genuinely dumbfounded. It had surpassed all of my expectations in its charm, aesthetic and its wonderfully approachable mechanics.

This was Duke Ellington's first film score, undertaken at the urging of Anatomy of a Murder's director, Otto Preminger. The full range of the composer's previous work was brought to bear on this 1959 work. Ellington was a natural choice to convey the rich and varied emotional moods of this drama. Tension and release, danger and safety, movement and stillness, darkness and light; the textural palette that was Ellington's signature was always compellingly cinematic. In these orchestral settings, Duke's soloists (Cat Anderson, Clark Terry, Johnny Hodges, Harry Carney, and others) shine, as their playing reflects true variations on a theme in a classical sense. That's not to say that this set doesn't swing, too – "Happy Anatomy" is a short but fully cranked gallop. This is an album of rich variety and evocative writing.

Harry Connick, Jr.'s vocals perfectly fit the moods throughout the 1989 Billy Crystal film When Harry Met Sally. This soundtrack album (which stands apart from the movie) was a big hit and a major step forward for the young pianist-vocalist, although it appears to have been the high point of his career. Connick warmly sings such numbers as "It Had to Be You," "Our Love Is Here to Stay," "But Not for Me," and "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," while usually accompanied by bassist Benjamin Wolfe, drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, and a big band. Frank Wess' warm tenor makes a brief appearance on "Our Love Is Here to Stay." In addition, there are a few melodic instrumentals, including some solo Connick piano on "Winter Wonderland" and "Autumn in New York." Highly recommended.

„Das kalte Herz“ ist nicht unbedingt ein leicht zu konsumierender, aber ohne Zweifel ein wirklich gelungener Score. Oliver Biehler verbreitet mit düsterem Streicher-Brodem, Percussion, Gesang und Pfiff (vorsicht, doppeldeutig!) eine angemessen dunkle und dennoch melancholische Stimmung, die nicht nur perfekt zum Film, sondern auch zum Herbst selbst und damit zu Halloween passt.

MovieScore Media proudly presents Portugal's number one film composer, 32-year old Nuno Malo. Classically trained in London and a film music post grad at University of Southern California, Malo has written several beautiful orchestral scores that will see the day of light on the MovieScore Media label, and his dark symphonic score for the psychological drama, Julgamento, is our first. This is a drama few have seen outside of Portugal, but the score is so strong that we simply had to produce this album for the international film music audience to enjoy. Malo's thematic writing centers around long melodic lines and fully developed ideas, while his suspense writing is effectively built on ostinatos and short motifs. The orchestra is augmented by unusual instruments such as the Ukrainian Bandura and bowed dulcimer, giving the score a fresh air of originality in terms of its colors.

Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere CD release: "ODE TO BILLY JOE" Composed and Conducted by Michel Legrand. “Billie Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge”. In 1967, Billie Joe jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge was one of the hottest topics of that summer, all over the world. The fact that it all had to do with a surprise number one hit song shows the power of great storytelling. Everyone was conjecturing what it was that was thrown off the Tallahatchie Bridge and why Billie Joe had killed himself. It became part of popular culture almost instantly. The song garnered eight Grammy nominations, winning three for Gentry and one for arranger Jimmie Haskell. Nine years later, Warner Bros. decided to turn the song into a feature film and hired author Herman Raucher (Summer of ’42) to do so. Max Baer, Jr. directed and produced the film – he was, at the time, best known for playing Jethro Bodine on the hit TV series The Beverly Hillbillies. Young actors Robby Benson and Glynnis O’Connor were cast in the leads, along with Joan Hotchkiss, James Best (giving a sensitive and wonderful performance), and others. Raucher changed the spelling of Billie to Billy and his screenplay fleshed out the events of the song, and gave the audience the reason for Billy Joe’s jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge.

The bandoneon betrays Osvaldo Montes's Argentinian origins. He uses it profusely in the Canadian film La Guêpe, directed by Gilles Carle in 1986. The piano, in the other hand, reveals his song-writing nature, and the melancholic spirit of his work.
