B.B. & The Blues Shacks are one of Europe's leading blues & roots bands and are well-known for their original blend of swinging and grooving blues, deeply rooted in 1940s and `50s jump blues. Béla Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 2, BB 117 was written in 1937–38. During the composer's life, it was known simply as his Violin Concerto. His other violin concerto, Violin Concerto No. 1, Sz. 36, BB 48a, was written in the years 1907–1908, but only published in 1956, after the composer's death, as "Violin Concerto No. 1, Op. posth." Bartók composed the concerto in a difficult stage of his life, when he was filled with serious concerns about the growing strength of fascism. He was of firm anti-fascist opinions, and therefore became the target of various attacks in pre-war Hungary. Bartók initially planned to write a single-movement concerto set of variations, but Zoltán Székely wanted a standard three-movement concerto. In the end, Székely received his three movements, while Bartók received his variations: the second movement is a formal set of variations, and the third movement is a variation on material from the first.

With her latest album, Viola Borealis, violist Marina Thibeault explores the musical links between several northern cultures. From the 2016 concerto by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks to solo works by Anishinaabe composer Melody McKiver to the very first viola concerto—composed around 1716 by Telemann—the elections on this album showcase the spellbinding talent of Thibeault, who is joined by Orchestre de l’Agora under Nicolas Ellis.

Sky returned in late 1987 with the Mozart album, which united the band with the orchestra of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. The project was initiated by Tristan Fry (due to his parallel work with both band and orchestra) and was inspired by the bicentenary of Mozart's death. The album contained full orchestral performances of Mozart's work with Sky incorporated into the arrangements (most of which were written by Steve Gray). The band and orchestra (with Paul Hart returning as guest musician) promoted the album with a one-off concert at the Royal Albert Hall on November 1, 1987. The Mozart project was roundly panned and dismissed by the press (although the album was ultimately Sky's most successful album in the United States) and the band took another two years off before returning again.

Robbie Nevil first came to prominence in the late '70s and early '80s as a songwriter. He wrote hits songs for such acts as: El DeBarge, Earth Wind & Fire, Al Jarreau, Kool & the Gang, and the Pointer Sisters. In the mid-'80s Capitol was focusing on launching a new pop label, Manhattan, and after an audition, Nevil was the label's first signing. He released two albums for the Manhattan label in 1986 and 1988, then another for EMI in 1991 before abandoning singing and returning to a songwriting and production career. Wot's It to Ya compiles the best songs of Nevil's singing career from his three albums including his three Top 20 hit singles, "C'est la Vie," "Dominoes," and the title track, "Wot's It to Ya." Practically forgotten in the glut of mid-'80s pop music, this is the first and only compilation of Robbie Nevil's musical legacy.

For fans of disco this is a must have. Dimitri from Paris is arguably the world's foremost disco DJ, and none of these tracks have previously been released on a compilation.

Accompanied by his ensemble Le Banquet Céleste, the countertenor Damien Guillon places his voice at the service of a programme of vocal pieces by the German Baroque composer Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, a large part of whose output was destroyed in a fire at Rudolstadt Castle in 1735. Among the works that have come down to us are the two collections Harmonische Freude musikalischer Freunde, containing respectively fifty and twenty-five arias for one to four solo voices, instrumental ensemble and basso continuo. Most of the German texts of these pieces depict humankind at the mercy of an unpredictable and volatile destiny.

The Best of Bros is the first compilation album by British pop band Bros. It contains all their singles, together with selected album tracks and b-sides. Although the album heavily features tracks from their 1988 UK debut album Push, the booklet and sleeve do not include any pictures of Craig Logan. It does however, correctly credit Nicky Graham and Tom Watkins as the song writers for the Push tracks instead of "The Brothers" pseudonym used originally.

This recording presents several of J.S. Bach's most famous organ works as well as various chorale preludes. The majority of these pieces demonstrate the influence of the North German school and of Buxtehude and Reinken in particular, although how this is done depends very much on whether the piece concerned is a chorale prelude or one of the larger free-form works. Until recently the opening bars of Wo Gott der Herr nicht bei uns hält were all that we knew of the score, given that a fair copy came to light in a public auction only in March 2008…
