Maxfield Parrish's sole album, It's a Cinch to Give Legs to Old Hard-Boiled Eggs, is a perfect example of the direction that many West Coast rockers were taking in the late '60s, incorporating country stylings into adventurous rock songs. In this respect, It's a Cinch… falls neatly between the Grateful Dead at their rootsiest and cosmic cowboys like the New Riders of the Purple Sage. The high, lonesome melodies and lead singing and three- to four-part harmonies connect the band's inspirations and mentors, such as Jerry Garcia (who taught some members guitar) and the Beatles, to early-1900s mountain music that was so influential to all of the Californian country-rockers. However, the songs on It's a Cinch… are not nearly as explicitly country as NRPS, often owing as much to the adventurous mid-period music of the Byrds, and even Middle Eastern drones. This latter effect was probably most prominent due to the presence of the several members of Kaleidoscope who played on and produced the record.

Although the Misunderstood were among the best obscure psychedelic bands – indeed, among the best obscure '60s rock bands of any kind – they barely got to record anything before tragic circumstances broke them up. The discovery of this bunch of previously unknown mid-'60s acetates, then, was big news to psychedelic rock aficionados, though most of this actually comes from their garage R&B days rather than the psychedelic peak they attained with their late-1966 lineup. The first nine of these 14 tracks come from sessions spanning mid-1965 to early 1966, and show them as a ferocious, above-average moody raw R&B-based group, somewhat in the mold of a more guitar-oriented Animals.

Second release on Ondine by the award-winning pianist Anastasia Injushina features some of the lesser-known aspects of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s (1756–1791) piano music. Injushina is particularly known for the poetry and sensitivity in her playing, which makes Mozart’s music, among others, a perfect choice for repertoire for her. During the 1780s Mozart became deeply interested in Baroque music. In Vienna he took actively part in Sunday meetings arranged by van Swieten where the music of the old masters, such as Handel and Bach, were played. As a result the influence of Baroque music became visible in some of Mozart’s works which are heard on this disc. The Suite in C was influenced by Handel’s piano suites. Prelude and Fugue is a great example of Mozart’s interest in the art of the Fugue and the music of Bach. The Sonata movement KV 312 and Andante in F major for Small Mechanical Organ are among Mozart’s last completed pieces. Twelve Variations in C major on "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman" is a delightful piece based on the famous children’s song Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

With "Night Trippin'" they dive deep into the world of voodoo blues and reach the roots of jazz and rock.

Released as a 3-CD 8” digi-pak. Recorded, for the most part, over two days in July 1963, these varied and excellent performances ended up being scattered over several RCA Victor releases between 1963 and 1968. It would not be until 1990 that the songs finally appeared as originally intended on a proper RCA vinyl album. Almost 60-years later, FTD presents all of the masters and outtakes available from the session(s).

Franz Danzi served as a cellist in the famous Mannheim orchestra, remaining in Mannheim when the Electoral court moved to Munich in 1778. In 1783 he took his father’s place in the Munich orchestra and there continued his career as a composer with his third German opera. Having married a singer, he enjoyed an active career in opera that led to his appointment as deputy Kapellmeister in Munich in 1798. After his wife’s death he returned to Mannheim and in 1807 was appointed Kapellmeister in Stuttgart, where he met Weber. In 1812 he moved to Karlsruhe, where again he was able to stage operas by Weber. He was, at the same time, a prolific composer in many genres.

Written prior to his first symphony sometime around 1881 as a teenager the themes were taken from a series of collected melodies (Melodies populaires de Grece et d’Orient) published by Louis Bourgault-Doucoudray of material he collected during a journey through Greece in 1874 with the premiere being conducted by Anton Rubenstein. It is another example of the fascination of exploring exotic themes from other countries like Prince Igor, Scheherazade, or Islamey. From very early on in his composing career Glazunov had already developed his sound which offers wonderful arrangements and orchestrations and a unique Russian sound unlike anyone else.

The prospect of hearing Alina Ibragimova in two of the most important concertos written for the violin is in itself irresistibly enticing, but Shostakovich aficionados will also welcome an opportunity to hear the rarely performed original opening to the Burlesque of No.1, subsequently made less fearsome for the soloist at the request of the work's dedicatee, David Oistrakh.

Guildenstern were founded in the Hessian town of Rüsselsheim in the spring of 1976 and played some keyboard-dominated progressive rock in the style of bands like early Genesis, early Yes, Camel, or Eloy. The band didn't release anything, but some recordings with a satisfactory sound quality have been preserved: eight tracks recorded in the rehearsal room, as well as three pieces from their rock opera "Life's a stage", recorded live in Flörsheim on September 29th, 1979. They are now to be heard on the Guildenstern CD.

A day ahead of the first anniversary of Korn's latest album, "Requiem", the band has released a new five-song EP.
A year ago today, Korn delivered one of the most unique performances of its career - a livestreamed 300-person intimate ceremony and epic performance at the Hollywood United Methodist Church in Los Angeles, California honoring souls that had passed, especially those lost during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Now, music from that evening is being officially released for the first time as the "Requiem Mass" EP, featuring five highlights from the performance. The EP is available now via Loma Vista Recordings on 2xCD deluxe edition packaged with the original "Requiem" album.

The 1958 session took place in Paris with Quincy Jones doing the arrangements and leading a 55-piece orchestra. To match up this large aggregation would be daunting for most singers. But with Vaughan's powerful operatic voice, it's no problem at all. Zoot Sims was present backing Vaughan and soloing on such cuts as "Misty." Also present was the rhythm section of Ronnell Bright on piano, Kenny Clarke on drums, and Richard Davis and Pierre Michelot sharing bass.
