Each track has been newly mixed, without overdubs, by Matt Ross-Spang with the aim of getting as close as possible to what Elvis heard in the studio. Along the way, Memphis presents Presley's 1969 comeback sessions, his 1973 recordings at Stax, and a 1974 re-creation of his Vegas residency, billed as "The Homecoming Concert."

Elvis Presley belongs on the short list of artists who changed the course of popular music in the 20th century. He may not have invented rock & roll, but he was indisputably its first rock star, a singer whose charisma was tightly intertwined with his natural talent for a combination that seemed combustible, sexy, and dangerous when Presley seized the imagination of America with four successive number one singles in 1956. He spent the next two decades near the top of the charts, weathering changes in fashion, self-inflicted missteps, and comebacks as his music expanded and evolved. Throughout his career, he never abandoned the rock & roll he pioneered on his early singles for Sun Records, but he developed an effective counterpoint to his primal rockabilly by honing a rich, resonant ballad style while also delving into blues, country, and soul, progressions that came into sharp relief with his celebrated "comeback" in the late '60s.

It's no understatement to call Elvis Presley the chief catalyst of the rock 'n' roll era. Presley earned his nickname ''The King'' by releasing dozens of course-altering singles over the course of his influential career. On 24 Karat Hits, two dozen of the King's greatest recordings have been painstakingly compiled using the original 1, 2 and 3-track tapes. All the hits are here from Heartbreak Hotel to Suspicious Minds. Elvis as weve never heard him before.

Elvis Aaron Presley[a] (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was an American singer and actor. Known as the "King of Rock and Roll", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. Presley's sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, brought both great success and initial controversy.

Elvis Is Back! is the fourth studio album by American singer Elvis Presley, released on April 8, 1960 by RCA Victor. It was Presley's first album of new material since 1958's King Creole soundtrack, as well as his first to be recorded and released in stereophonic sound. The album marked Presley's return to music after his discharge from the U.S. Army. The material on the album has some influences from the rock and roll of Presley's early work, but it also offers a mix of sophisticated pop, blues, R&B and the "Nashville sound" production values associated with Chet Atkins, who co-produced the recording sessions with Steve Sholes. With public anticipation high, RCA rushed Elvis Is Back! and the standalone single "Stuck on You" into release mere days after Presley finished recording. The LP topped the UK Albums Chart and reached number two in Billboard's Top LP's. Initially, the release received mixed reviews, but over subsequent years its critical reception became progressively more positive, with critics generally praising its stylistic variety, production quality and mature sound. Elvis is Back! was certified Gold on July 15, 1999.

In 1977 overleed The King op 42-jarige leeftijd. Veel te jong, maar hij heeft wel een oeuvre nagelaten dat de popmuziek voor altijd heeft veranderd en artiesten tot op de dag van vandaag weet te inspireren.

This CD is obviously "Out in Hollywood" Vol.2 but there is much more here. 26 tracks, over 70 minutes, and this time the treat of eavesdropping on Elvis and the band working out the songs. But above all the real is the BRILLIANT audio quality.
For me the highlights are the rediscovered tapes of Viva Las Vegas plus the delicious Kid Galahad songs but there's so much more … and it's perfect for an Australian Summer afternoon. The first 3 tracks are in Binaural Stereo and as soon as D.J's drum kicks the beat in on 'Loving You' you can immediately notice the great sound. However it is the second track 'Jailhouse Rock' Tk5 that is the first highlight. As soon as Elvis says "We've gotta get this thing goin' " before the explosive start, you know that Ernst is going to let us hear a little more than just the songs. A dynamite sound, with less echo, this version is outstanding. "Just a little too fast" they say at the end, but it's sensational just the same! The Master was next.

Glitz, nostalgia, and deep emotional resonance - Elvis' last show at the Memphis Coliseum was a whirlwind rendition of the icon's hits and testament to just how important a musical icon he is. Still an unmatched showman, there were signs of his declining health, which provided a poignant undertone to the performance. Elvis's voice remained a powerful and emotive instrument, capable of stirring the crowd either through his raw energy or tender emotion. Homespun brings you this WCBS-FM live radio broadcast of his show at Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, Tennessee on July 5th 1976 for your listening pleasure.

The incredible Elvis Presley life story began when Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.

The Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 5 collects more pop and rock holiday tunes, this time venturing further into the '70s and '80s with songs like Paul McCartney & Wings' "Wonderful Christmastime," Hall & Oates' "Jingle Bell Rock," and Barry Manilow's "It's Just Another New Year's Eve." The collection still features traditional pop chestnuts, including Dean Martin's "A Marshmallow World," Johnny Mathis' "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)," and Andy Williams' "Sleigh Ride," but this volume's overall feel is more contemporary than classic. Other highlights include Manhattan Transfer's "A Christmas Love Song," the Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping," the Tokens' "Little Drummer Boy," and the Jackson 5's "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." If The Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 5 isn't necessarily the most coherent volume in the series, it's certainly one of the most interesting.

Another installment in Collectables' The Ultimate Christmas Album series, volume four gathers a mix of well-known and offbeat holiday tunes, including Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas," the Platters' "Winter Wonderland," and Perry Como's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas." Brook Benton's "You're All I Want for Christmas," Percy Faith's "Christmas Is," and Otis Redding's "Merry Christmas Baby" are some of the collection's soulful highlights, while Santo & Johnny's "Twistin' Bells" and Stan Freberg's "Christmas Dragnet" add some novelty to the festivities. Though it's a somewhat uneven collection, The Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 4: WCBS 101.1 has enough interesting and classic moments to make it worthwhile for anyone looking to go beyond the season's basic music.

The argument will forever rage, but Memphis, Tennessee, is as much the fountainhead of rock ’n’ roll as is Cleveland, Ohio. Whilst the north had Alan Freed as its turntable champion, the south was blessed with the madcap deejay, Dewey Phillips. Chances are, ole Dewey would have played most of the 75 titles that go to make up Raunchy Sugar on his Red Hot and Blue show that aired over WHBQ in Memphis. During the 1950s the city was alive with labels, record hops, musicians and the general chaos that goes hand in hand with the big beat. The geographical lie of the land helped a great deal, because the city was central to so many rural areas that harboured musical talent and style. Carl Perkins and Carl Mann gravitated to the area from Jackson, Tennessee, Billy Riley and Conway Twitty did the same from Arkansas, and Elvis Presley hit the trail from Mississippi in order to soak up some of that unique Shelby County action. Outside of Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Records, the labels included such names as Hi, Cover, Fernwood, Meteor, Vaden Moon and Satellite.
