Released in 1986 and produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads, The Blind Leading the Naked saw Violent Femmes expand their sound beyond the stripped-down folk-punk of their early work. Incorporating a horn section featuring the Stooges’ Steve Mackay on saxophone, legendary guitarist Leo Kottke on the acoustic 10-string, and acclaimed experimental artist Fred Frith, performing an array of homemade instruments, the album marked a commercial breakthrough for the band.

Woodstock 94 is a two-disc set documenting the Woodstock 1994 festival. It was released during November 1994, nearly three months after the event took place. The album was released on A&M Records. Hallowed Ground is the 1984 follow up to the Violent Femmes legendary self-titled debut album. Similar to the first album, all of the songs were written by lead singer Gordon Gano while still in high school. The band's sophomore title, however, pushed the band in new directions and made sure they did not rest on their laurels – featuring fan favorites (and live staples) "Country Death Song," "Jesus Walking on the Water," "I Hear The Rain," "Black Girls" and "Never Tell."

Teeming with teenage angst, punk sensibilities, and Violent Femmes’ own special brand of jittery folk-rock, the trio’s self-titled debut Violent Femmes became a cult favourite. Violent Femmes is the debut album by Violent Femmes. Mostly recorded in July 1982, the album was released by Slash Records on vinyl and on cassette in April 1983, and on CD in 1987 with two extra tracks "Ugly" and "Gimme the Car". Violent Femmes is the band's most successful album to date and went platinum eight years after its release. The album achieved what is believed to be a unique feat by going gold, four years after its release, without having yet made an appearance on Billboard's Top 200 album chart. Slant Magazine listed the album at #21 on its list of "Best Albums of the 1980s".
