Born out of a Boston rock underground teeming with history and riffs alike, Sundrifter capture the essence of tonal weight with their Small Stone debut, Visitations. Their second album overall behind 2016’s Not Coming Back, the nine-track long-player harnesses spaciousness and heft alike and soars with melodic vibrancy in a way most acts simply can’t balance. Shades of Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age appear, but they’re just shades, and Sundrifter’s vision of heavy is their own, someplace between grunge, doom, psychedelia and classic heavy rock.

Kyuss' triad of Chris Goss-produced albums ranks among the '90s most important and influential body of work. Released overseas in this limited, special-edition collector's box, 1992's Blues for the Red Sun, 1994's Sky Valley and 1995's …And the Circus Leaves Town remain desert metal masterpieces, whose legend continues to grow year by year. First time listeners may hesitate to take the plunge into such a large package, but chances are starting with any one of the three individually will only lead to the other two in the end.

“SAMAVAYO, a band that’s come quite a long way and who’s history is a long and curvy one. Over the course of nearly 20 years this band has found their place and established themselves an excellent name within the Genre of Heavy, Stoner and Psychedelic Rock. But SAMAVAYOs story is far from over: 2018s “Vatan” marks a new chapter and opens a new door for longtime fans and new admirers alike. Contemporary, fresh and progressive – but never missing that crunching heaviness they’re so well known for. At the same time lyrically deeper and more political than before. Beware, this band has got something to say – and it’s gonna get loud!

The same question arises three years after the beautiful Rise Above The Meadow: Why are Greenleaf not packing the biggest venues just like Queens Of The Stone Age? Well, it can`t be the fault of "Let It Out!", the heavenly groovy opener of that album's follow up, Hear The Rivers. The rest of the album also turns out to be quite the mesmerizing bag of tricks that seizes the Swedish Stoner sound and enriches it with so many wonderful things, like the unforgettable riff-o-rama "Good Ol`Goat" or the slow soulfeeder "We Are The Pawns". An absolute gem of an album that is best kept in the family - which is why former Greenleaf - and Dozer drummer Karl Daniel Lidén (Craft, Bloodbath, Crippled Black Phoenix amongst others) produced it. The bearded dudes will hit European roads in November with their seventh album Hear The Rivers, and it's actually quite neat we don´t have to travel to anonymous stadiums to enjoy their live magic.

The Wizards come from Bilbao in Spain. They were originally formed in the spring of 2013. After having recorded a four-track demo the band started gigging for earnest in February 2014. Since then The Wizards have released two studio albums and toured mainly in Spain but also in France, Portugal and Germany. Rise Of The Serpent is the band's third album. The band's slogan is "Occult Heavy Metal Warriors", what's that supposed to mean and how would The Wizards describe their overall musical style? "What we play is a totally unconscious mix of styles we all share and like. There definitely is a strong and obvious heavy metal background in our music, but if you scratch the surface you will also find some 1970s hard rock, a piece of the doomy element and even some punk.

After creating a classic with their second album, Blues for the Red Sun, desert metal gods Kyuss faced the unenviable task of delivering the goods once again for a new label, Elektra Records. And they almost pulled it off with 1994's stellar Welcome to Sky Valley. The album's 13 songs are divided into three "suites" which fully display the band's impressive creative range, from furious metal to psychedelic grooves, and anything in between. The first and most consistent of these suites starts with the huge guitar riff of "Gardenia" (which resembles molten lava flowing down the side of a volcano), continues into the moody space jam instrumental "Asteroid," and culminates in the strangely titled yet superbly diverse "Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop"…

In the grand tradition of Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains the Same and the Make-Up’s Blue Is Beautiful, Three Kings is a live album/concert film that’s intercut with a series of freaked-out vignettes to create a loose, psychedelic narrative to go along with the music. As a live album, Three Kings does a great job of capturing Dead Meadow in all of their bluesy, stoner rock glory. All of the Zeppelin and Black Sabbath worship that you’d expect from the band is present in the live set. Depending on how you feel about live jamming, you might be thrilled or disappointed to hear that the band plays it pretty close to the album versions here. Rather than getting lost down the rabbit hole of excessive live noodling, they keep the songs (relatively) short and sweet. While Three Kings should please true blue Dead Meadow fans with its freaked-out film accompaniment, the live tracks don’t offer much more musically than their studio albums, which already have a loose and live feel to them, making Three Kings a more engaging visual experience than an audio one.
