Depeche Mode continue their 12-inch box set series with Ultra: The 12″ Singles box set, an eight-record package due for release in September.
The box set contains two 12-inch records for each of the four singles: ‘Barrel of a Gun’, ‘It’s No Good’, ‘Home’ and ‘Useless’. Because the album was issued in 1997, this was were deep into the era where CD singles were becoming the dominant commercial format in the UK for remixes. For this reason Sony have announced that three of the 12-inches in this new set “are comprised of tracks first released on CD singles”, with artwork expanded to reflect this.
The audio is “mastered from the original tapes”

Counterfeit² is the first full-length studio album by Martin Gore, the primary songwriter for the band Depeche Mode.
Martin Gore's Counterfeit² beat David Gahan's Paper Monsters to the punch by just over a month; with some better timing - and, you know, a synchronous album from Andrew Fletcher - Depeche Mode could've pulled a Kiss. This first full-length from DM's principal songwriter follows an EP he released 14 years prior. On that EP, Gore covered some of his favorite songs and made them sound unsurprisingly like his group circa that year. As one can tell from the title of this disc, this is the same concept, and even some of the most ardent fans no doubt breathed another sigh of relief with the knowledge that he decided once again to let other people provide the lyrics…

Music for the Masses is the sixth studio album by Depeche Mode. It was released by Mute Records on 28 September 1987. The album became the band's highest-charting in the US upon its release, reaching #35 on the Billboard 200. It also contained more hit singles than any of their previous releases. While there was no extremely popular single from the album ("People Are People" from Some Great Reward reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100), the three singles that were released all made it onto the Hot 100, a feat that hadn't been achieved by any Depeche Mode single after those from Some Great Reward. Moreover, all three singles achieved modest success on the chart.

Dave Gahan is an English singer-songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the electronic band Depeche Mode since their debut in 1980.
With his second solo album, "Hourglass" (2007), the Depeche Mode front man emerged as a gifted songwriter, masterfully capturing man's race against - and fear of running out of - time.
The bonus CD of "Hourglass Remixes" (2008) includes all eight tracks from the vinyl plus three additional remixes.

Dave Gahan is an English singer-songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the electronic band Depeche Mode since their debut in 1980.
After Dave Gahan released his debut solo album, Paper Monsters, in 2003, he landed three of his songs on Depeche Mode's 2005 album Playing the Angel, meaning Martin Gore was no longer the band's sole songwriter. Two years later and he's on a roll with Hourglass, a more electronic, better built, and altogether better deal than Monsters, thanks mostly to the singer and-don't-you-forget-to-mention songwriter's better sense of self. At least that's the way it feels because unlike Monsters, Hourglass doesn't have any overly urgent need to shake off Depeche Mode comparisons…

As the lead vocalist for Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan appeared to be far removed from the common trappings of rock & roll stardom. Although the group often flirted with gloomy overtones throughout their career, they maintained a largely squeaky-clean image. By the early '90s, however, Gahan had moved to L.A., gotten hooked on heroin and booze, and immersed himself in the grunge scene. When Depeche Mode regrouped to record Songs of Faith & Devotion, Gahan had transformed himself into the perennial junkie. As his addictions worsened, Gahan lost his friends, lost himself, and for a few short minutes, lost his life before paramedics revived him after an all-night drug binge. Following Gahan's journey through both physical and mental rehabilitation, Paper Monsters is what many would expect - a collection of material culled from his addictions, failed relationships, and spiritual rebirth…

There was a time when you could walk into your average record store and find the singles section by spotting the big block of black rows. These rows signaled the whereabouts of the Ds and tended to eat up a disproportionate space of the singles section. In 2004, the Mute label condensed all of these releases into Remixes 81-04, which itself was ironically (or fittingly) presented in multiple versions. This particular version is a triple-disc set that attempts to function as a representative sampling of Depeche Mode's innumerable remixes. It does an admirable job, making a point to highlight glorified extended versions and radical reworkings alike.

Pioneering English band Depeche Mode took the underground electronic club sounds of the early '80s and expanded them to stadium-sized levels within a decade, becoming one of the best-selling international groups in the process. One of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, they debuted with a bouncy electro-pop spirit which gradually developed into a darker, more dramatic synth-rock style that ultimately positioned them as one of the most quintessential alternative bands of their era. Earning a modest European following with early releases like 1981's Speak & Spell and 1983's Construction Time Again, they made their U.S. breakthrough in 1984 with their platinum-certified fourth LP, Some Great Reward…

It features the songs “Fragile Tension” and “Hole to Feed,” both remixed by cutting-edge producers like Paul Woolford and Laidback Luke. The single is also a digital-age milestone for Depeche Mode, as it’s their first not be made available on a 7" 45.
