This disc casts her in music composed, for the most part, for one of the most celebrated English singers of that era, Cecilia Young, one of several talented singing sisters and for a time the wife of Thomas Arne—famed in her day for the "sweetness and simplicity" (Dibdin's words) of her singing and her character. The impersonation seems a convincing one, to judge by the result here, which is uniformly delightful.

Handel's Belshazzar at the Aix Festival was imported from the Staatsoper Berlin. Berlin had built a huge, magnificent production and imported English and American opera singers, including star-turn countertenor Bejun Mehta. Add to this a superb local Baroque instrumental ensemble and an accomplished vocal ensemble, not to mention the world-renowned early music conductor, René Jacobs: and voilà, an operatic hit.

Makin' the Changes features altoist Jackie McLean in two different settings. On three selections - a rollicking "Bean and the Boys," an up-tempo "I Never Knew" and "I Hear a Rhapsody" - McLean teams up with pianist Mal Waldron in a quartet with bassist Arthur Phipps and drummer Art Taylor. The other three numbers ("What's New," "Chasin' the Bird" and McLean's original "Jackie's Ghost") have more of a jam session feel, and feature McLean in a sextet with trumpeter Webster Young, trombonist Curtis Fuller, pianist Gil Coggins, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Louis Hayes. In general, the hard bop music is swinging and fairly advanced, a step above the usual jam sessions of the time.

CD2 is full of classics from the movies and archives of pop, while CD3 contains enough golden oldies and love songs to tug at the heart strings of even the most stoic of mothers. Including a few unashamedly Mum-related songs from the likes of Tom Jones ('She's A Lady') and The Commodores ('Three Times A Lady') our compilation ends with the irrepressible Gilbert O Sullivan and 'Me Mum', a rousing tribute to mothers everywhere.

2012 release from this Country side-project led by Norah Jones. Material for the album was taken from the Willies' live repertoire, and by passing around ideas drawn from disparate sources. The selections include more surprising choices, like the trucker classic 'Diesel Smoke, Dangerous Curves' and 'Foul Owl On The Prowl,' from the soundtrack to In The Heat Of The Night. Alongside the more obscure songs, though, For the Good Times also includes some of the best-known songs in the history of Country music, like Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' and the title track, written by Kris Kristofferson and made famous by such singers as Ray Price and Al Green.
