Waiting to Exhale: Original Soundtrack Album is a soundtrack for the film of the same name, released on November 14, 1995 by Arista Records. Written and produced by Babyface, the soundtrack features appearances by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, TLC, Brandy, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Faith Evans, Patti LaBelle, SWV and Mary J. Blige. The album remained at number one on the US Billboard 200 album chart for five weeks and Top R&B Albums chart for ten weeks, going 7× platinum, on September 4, 1996. The album received a total of eleven Grammy nominations in 1997, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year for "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)". Three songs were nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. It won the Grammy for Best R&B Song for "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)," written by Babyface. The soundtrack has sold over twelve million copies worldwide.

The Rockpalast was still in its infancy when the British band STARRY EYED & LAUGHING entered the stage of the Cologne WDR studio L on 24 February 1976. Only a handful of bands like the Streetwalkers, Man, Procol Harum, the Climax Bluesband or Alexis Korner had the honour to perform live in the Cologne studios and later to be broadcasted all over Germany on TV in front of the four Brits Tony Poole, Ross McGeeney, Ian Whitmore and Michael Wickford. STARRY EYED & LAUGHING started playing what is now commonly known as Americana in 1974 – a mixture of country, folk, blues and rock. The sound of SE&L was characterized by Pooles 12-string Rickenbacker, which immediately reminded of Roger McGuinn and the band was called the British answer to the American Byrds. And so it wasn’t surprising that with “Chimes Of Freedom”, “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” and “Mr. Tambourine Man” there were three titles on the Rockpalast setlist that were also part of the standard program of the Byrds.

In 2016 Trevor Powers wrote an open letter to fans explaining that he "ended Youth Lagoon because it became a mental dungeon, and I was its captive. My intention was never to keep it going – only to serve as a nod to the blooming years." Two years later, after releasing three albums of skewed, but grandiose and intimate, lo-fi indie psych-pop under the moniker, he returned with the course-corrective Mulberry Violence. Released under his own name, the ten-track set evokes its unsettling title, pairing sugary melodies with fractured breakbeats and intermittent bursts of electronic discord. Jettisoning the pop architecture of his Youth Lagoon days, Powers has distilled his angst into a highly concentrated sonic tonic that both delights and disturbs.

British pianist/vocalist Jamie Cullum's previous effort, Twentysomething, was an uncomplicated mix of piano-driven melodic pop with a jazzy twist and some reworked jazz standards. 2005's Catching Tales follows a similar format but falls short of its predecessor's simple approach by muddying up the production with dated electronic flourishes. Which isn't to say it's a bad album.
