Andris Nelsons, Kristine Opolais, and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig form a Dvorák sound from the middle, singing the melodies that the composer concealed in all of the layers of his music with tender, warm, soft colors. Nelsons’ tempos remain calm and relaxed, allowing the omnipresent beauty of Dvorák’s music to unfold and flood the Gewandhaus. This is the first DVD and Blu-ray release of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under the baton of its new music director Andris Nelsons. Recorded at the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, May 2017.

The series of Janacek's operas conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras for Decca has become one of the most exciting gramophone projects of the day, with each issue a major event. The new digital recording of the last opera he composed, From the House of the Dead, is no exception: indeed, for reasons that lie beyond the excellence of performance and recording, and also lie apart from the fact that here is the first version to appear for nearly eight years, this is an historic occasion, a significant contribution to musical knowledge.

Libuse is The Czech national opera. It has absolutely no plot. Libuse becomes queen of the Czech lands, and then has a series of visions in which she prophesies the future glories of her people. Smetana knew when he wrote it that the opera would be reserved only for special occasions, perhaps for that reason he also lavished a tremendous amount of hard work and inspiration on it. The result is no less than spectacular, musically speaking.

Crossoverová formace z Havířova vznikla v roce 2010 a prošla několika změnami až do dnešní podoby. Kapela zručně kombinuje zvuk osmistrunné kytary a elektronické samply. Výrazný hlas zpěvačky Paulee pak hudbě dodává potřebnou razantnost. Výsledkem je žánrově nezařaditelná hudba, která si ale s každým koncertem získává nové fanoušky.

This album is the second release in the Naxos Czech Music Masters from Vienna series, and features the world premiere recording of Kozeluch’s magnificent coronation cantata. The coronation of Leopold II in Prague in 1791 came at a difficult time for European monarchs, although Leopold himself enjoyed a reputation as an enlightened ruler. Two musical works were commissioned for the occasion: Mozart’s opera ‘La clemenza di Tito’ and Kozeluch’s cantata ‘Heil dem Monarchen.’ The cantata, by turns celebratory, serene and darkly dramatic, was well-received and enhanced Kozeluch’s reputation in royal circles. It almost certainly played a part in his appointment in 1792 to the court of Leopold’s son and successor, the last Holy Roman Emperor Franz II.

Framus Five (also known as Framus 5; Michal Prokop & Framus Five) were formed in the early sixties; Michal Prokop (vocals, guitar) was one of co-founders and later the spiritus movens of the band. Up to this day the band had constant shifting in the line-up, and more than thirty musicians went through it, but the most significant ones are Lubos Andrst, a renowned Czech blues guitarist, and Jan Hrubý on violin. Their first album, 'Blues In Soul' (1968) is exactly what its name suggests. However, a 1971 'Mesto Er', probably the most interesting point of their career for a prog enthusiast, with a prog rock that combined many elements, including blues, jazz big band, and poetry.

Bohuslav Martin honed his songwriting craft in between composing larger orchestral works, his yearning for home reflected in the Four Songs to Czech Folk Texts written during desperate times in the Second World War. Sourced from previously unpublished manuscripts, this unique programme presents world premiere recordings of earlier songs written during summer holidays in Polika, as well as the Three Songs after Poems by Guillaume Apollinaire, long thought to be lost but miraculously unearthed just weeks before this recording. Pianist Giorgio Koukl regards these songs as similar to pearls, born out of hardship, pain and discomfort and, after a while, becoming precious and admired.

Uz Jsme Doma are second only to the legendary Plastic People of the Universe in the iconography of maverick Czech rock bands, having emerged from a scene where "alternative" meant a lot more than just a marketing format. The Plastic People started battling the fascistic Czech government in the ‘60s, and UJD formed in 1985, just four years before the Velvet Revolution liberated the country's culture. It was then that Uz Jsme Doma finally began recording, and more than two decades later, singer/guitarist/pianist Miroslav Wanek still leads the band's idiosyncratic punk-prog charge on Caves…

Mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton burst upon the global opera and concert scene in recent years after having won many of the world’s most prestigious prizes for vocal excellence and accomplishments. Delos has scored a major coup in releasing her debut album. Jamie’s well-chosen program of late-Romantic repertoire begins with eight of Gustav Mahler’s finest lieder – including his wonderful Five Rückert Songs – before treating us to the rare delights of Antonin Dvořák’s song cycle Gypsy Songs. Her album concludes with even more seldom-heard selections from the many lovely Swedish-language songs of Finnish master Jean Sibelius. This sublime album – further graced by pianist Brian Zeger’s peerless collaboration – will take your breath away, and leave you hungry for more from Jamie Barton, considered by many of the world’s top vocal and operatic experts to be the rising mezzo of our time.
