Though a bit over the top, this album was still powerful and surprisingly melodic, and managed to be quite bluesy and soulful even as the band overhauled chestnuts by James Brown and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. "Spontaneous Apple Creation" is a willfully histrionic, atonal song that gives Captain Beefheart a run for his money. Though this one-shot was not (and perhaps could not ever be) repeated, it remains an exhilaratingly reckless slice of psychedelia.

Throughout a chequered career Arthur Brown has never been one to play by the rules and when the chart topping The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown split nobody knew what the band’s namesake would do next. When he resurfaced several years later it was with the proto-prog, avant-garde Kingdom Come, a band so way out that time is only just catching up. Eternal Messenger: An Anthology 1970-1973 collects the band’s three albums along with a rare jam session and a disc of radio sessions to make the perfect introduction to Arthur Brown’s crazy world…

This release from 2003 offers 54 minutes of modern rock, while the second disc features 51 minutes of verbal fiction. A solid horn section augments a traditional rock ensemble: searing guitar, rumbling bass, durable drumming, and partytime keyboards. Passages of cafe piano lend a sedate romantic flair to the tunes, while sinuous electronics balance the music with futuristic embellishment. The core of power revolves around Brown's masterful vocals. His voice can be sultry and seductive one minute, only to soar to stratospheric heights the next, trembling the soul and scraping the ceiling of heaven. His soulful crooning delves past the audience's eardrums, burrowing deep into the heart to churn with evocative vigor and generate emotional responses of monumental scope…

By the mid-'70s, Arthur Brown had spent some six years operating so far below the radar that many people who remembered his "Fire" chart-topper could easily be excused for thinking he'd vanished altogether. Of course, aficionados knew he'd been busy elsewhere, scouring the progressive underground with Journey and Kingdom Come, and fans of those projects were nonplussed indeed when Brown suddenly reappeared in the mainstream, turning up on the Saturday morning British TV pop program Supersonic to plug his latest single. Resplendent in gold wellies, Brown drew the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" to new heights of dementia - the single itself was ultimately a flop, but the performance was killer, and all ears were open for the album that followed, Dance…

UK band Kingdom Come was the band of British artist Arthur Brown in the first half of the 70's, releasing three critically acclaimed albums before they folded in 1974. The keyboardist in the final line-up, US musician Victor Peraino, was given and used the opportunity to continue using the band name, and released a single album in 1975 as Victor Peraino's Kingdom Come. Since then news around the band have been fairly quiet, although it would appear that there's been a bit of activity. Featuring Arthur Brown on vocals again, "Journey in Time" is the second full-length production issued by the US based version of the band, and was released through the Italian label Black Widow Records in 2014…

One of the great overlooked albums of the 1970s, Time Actor was the result of a collaboration between legendary Crazy World & Kingdom Come visionary Arthur Brown and German Synthesiser and Ambient genius Klaus Schulze, recording under the pseudonym of his alter-ego Richard Wahnfried. The resulting record was a unique fusion of Brown’s amazing vocals and eccentric musical visions and Schulze’s innovative keyboard playing. Originally released on the German Innovative Communication label, Time Actor also features special guest Vincent Crane (who recorded a collaborative album with Arthur Brown for the label during this period). This newly re-mastered reissue restores the original album artwork and includes a new essay.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to release the classic lost album by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Strangelands. Recorded in the Autumn of 1969, the sessions were an attempt to resurrect the Crazy World by Arthur Brown and featured some classic material. Divided into four sub-headings, (The Country, The City, The Cosmos and The Afterlife), Strangelands was certainly ahead of its time but failed to gain a full release for nearly two decades. In hindsight, the material can be seen as the blueprint for Arthur s next project, the innovative Kingdom Come.
This Esoteric Recordings reissue also adds the legendary Replicas sessions by Rustic Hinge…

The Crazy World of Arthur Brown are an English psychedelic rock band formed by singer Arthur Brown in 1967. The band included Vincent Crane (Hammond organ and piano), Drachen Theaker (drums), and Nick Greenwood (bass). Their song "Fire" (released in 1968 as a single) was one of the one-hit wonders in the United Kingdom and United States in the 1960s. "Fire" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc…

Three years on from the dismal Dance album, Arthur Brown resurfaced with what, from all advance warning suggested, was going to prove his long-awaited return to fame - and a reunion with former Crazy World ally Vincent Crane. Chisholm in My Bosom, however, emerged as little more than a gospel-tinged retread of its disappointing predecessor, while Crane himself was evident on just one track. The full reunion was still another two years ahead, and an altogether different album away. Hopefully, one scoured Chisholm in My Bosom in search of excitement, and found it in a terrific version of "I Put a Spell on You"…

Arthur Brown had practically owned the radio one summer with the insane hit "Fire" (1968), while Black was a former member of the Mothers of Invention, which under the leadership of Frank Zappa became perhaps the most notorious rock band in American history. These Austin sessions are more about the roots rock both Black and Brown love, and one could say they really didn't dig too far to find songs to cover, sticking to warhorses. Some listeners may find the list of titles a bit discouraging, in fact. Once past this roadblock, though, and the scenery gets nice as the musicians in the backseat find effective grooves and the two leaders keep things interesting, Brown with his original vocal style and Black with his soulful drumming.

So Arthur Brown's name remains irremediably attached to the late-'60s freakout hit "Fire." So his numerous subsequent albums and projects never eclipsed that one fulgurous shot at stardom. Yet the man kept on going, re-emerging periodically with a new serving of songs. And in all of them remains one element: the voice. That unusually powerful, charismatic voice upon which aging seems to have no hold is what gives Tantric Lover its soul. Beyond the battered-up Summer of Love lyrics and the acoustic guitars, the voice is still a strange attractor and enough reason to turn your ear to this album. That is not to say that Brown's writing doesn't deserve your attention…
