Halsey penned the songs for 'If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power' herself. She recorded the career-defining album with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for their work in Nine Inch Nails and as Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy winning film/television composers. 'If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power' follows 'Manic', which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart.

Straddling the line between sunshine pop and easy listening, Introducing the Four King Cousins is as whitebread as you'd guess from the cover picture of four blondes in white dresses. The harmonies are accomplished but fairly soulless, and the arrangements right out of late-'60s variety television which, as it happened, the Four King Cousins had some experience with in their appearances as part of The King Family Show series. The selection of material isn't too imaginative, either, opting mostly for covers of well-known songs of the mid- to late '60s by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Bacharach/David, Lesley Gore, and the Monkees, as well as the standards "It's All in the Game" and "Let's Get Away from It All."

After singing the Soft Boys' "I Wanna Destroy You" on the Circle Jerks' comeback album in early 1995, some listeners wondered if Debbie Gibson's fifth album would see her jump completely on the alternative bandwagon. There was no need to worry. Think With Your Heart is a collection of soft, adult contemporary-oriented ballads that don't even have a hint of the dance-pop that sent her to the top of the charts. Perhaps that was intended as a sign of maturity, but it comes across as a lack of ideas by the end of the record, she has stated all of her musical concepts at least twice. The first time around, they're pleasant but it gets a little monotonous after a while. Gibson remains a talented songwriter and arranger, but she needs to push herself a bit to come up with something a bit more melodic and varied to win back her old audience.

Rick Nelson achieved his first comeback in the spring of 1961 with the double-sided hit "Travelin' Man"/"Hello Mary Lou," and he made it last into 1962 by tapping "Travelin' Man" songwriter Jerry Fuller for the further hits "A Wonder Like You" and "Young World." Nelson did not hold recording sessions for LPs per se, but rather assembled his albums from a series of sessions. In a sense, this meant that a disc like Album Seven by Rick tended to consist of tracks that hadn't already been chosen as singles, presumably because they were deemed weaker than the ones that were picked.

Neil's final album was an odd, stitched-together affair matching one LP side of live, acoustic material with a side of studio leftovers. The live half (on which Neil is assisted by second guitarist Monte Dunn) does not provide any revelations when compared to the studio prototypes, but he does deliver decent versions of several of his best songs, including "The Dolphins," "Everybody's Talkin'," and "Other Side of This Life." Side two has OK, but not remarkably interesting, alternates of "Badi-Da" and "Felicity," as well as a fair version of the soul standard "You Don't Miss Your Water" and a traditional blues, "Come Back Baby," with Les McCann on piano.

Devon Gilfillian hailed by Rolling Stone as “one of the most exciting young artists in Nashville’s burgeoning soul scene” will be releasing his debut album Black Hole Rainbow on Capitol Records in early 2020. Produced by Grammy Award-winning studio wizard Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Kacey Musgraves, The War On Drugs) in his iconic Downtown LA studio, Black Hole Rainbow masters the art of blending varied influences, styles, and methods to create a powerful vibe and inspired sensibility. At its core, it's a hip-shaking record about love—on multiple levels. As Devon puts it, “with these songs I want to instill a sense of vulnerability… I want these songs to motivate listeners to take action in their lives, and to better themselves so they can go out and give love to others.”

Blondie turned to British pop producer Mike Chapman for their third album, on which they abandoned any pretensions to new wave legitimacy (just in time, given the decline of the new wave) and emerged as a pure pop band. But it wasn't just Chapman that made Parallel Lines Blondie's best album; it was the band's own songwriting, including Deborah Harry, Chris Stein, and James Destri's "Picture This," and Harry and Stein's "Heart of Glass," and Harry and new bass player Nigel Harrison's "One Way or Another," plus two contributions from nonbandmember Jack Lee, "Will Anything Happen?" and "Hanging on the Telephone."
