Nine CD set. This collection gathers together the nine albums that Judy Collins recorded during the '70s and '80s: Whales & Nightingales, Living, True Stories And Other Dreams, Judith, Bread And Roses, Hard Times For Lovers, Running For My Life, Times Of Our Lives, and Home Again.. The albums are in CD-sized facsimile of the original sleeves, along with a booklet that compiles the credits and liner notes from those sleeves plus a note by Mick Houghton, author of Becoming Elektra: The True Story Of Jac Holzman's Visionary Record Label. They were all made for Jac Holzman's Elektra Records, a label she helped to shape in the '60s in her first decade as a recording artist through her adventurous spirit. Her forte was imaginative interpreting songs by her peers and she continued this trend throughout the '70s and into the '80s.

    Holidays, Christmas, Pop/Rock, Folk

Building on her well-represented holiday catalog, Christmas with Judy Collins is essentially a reissue of the folk artist's 2000 release All on a Wintry Night, padded with two additional songs. All 14 tracks from Wintry Night are featured here in their original sequence with the addition of a new single, the western-tinged "Angels in the Snow" leading off the album, and a stirring, largely a cappella version of "Amazing Grace" closing it out. Fans of Collins' rich, warm voice will enjoy some of the more stripped-down arrangements, which feature her singing to a simple piano accompaniment on lesser-known carols like "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "Cherry Tree Carol." On the other hand, the dated synthesizer sounds on tracks like "Come Rejoice" and "Good King Wenceslas" sound rather homogenous and the spoken intro over the faux-strings of "Away in a Manger" is far too heavy-handed to take seriously. Fortunately, the bulk of the album's 16 tracks favor the more minimalist arrangements keeping Collins' lovely voice at the forefront without much distraction.

This live set was recorded in the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a full band and a stellar array of guests to celebrate Judy Collins' 50th anniversary as a recording artist. (This is the audio version of the performance – there is another package that includes the full concert on DVD as well as the disc.) For starters, none of Ms. Collins' elegant, mysterious, sophisticated charm has worn off over the decades. In fact, it feels less studied and more organic now.

An excellent collection of some of the best tracks from Judy Collins' early Elektra albums, Colors of the Day will both entertain and leave you wanting more. Lovingly programmed (it leads off with her excellent country-pop hit "Someday Soon," an Ian Tyson classic), this is Collins at her finest. Earlier explorations into folk-pop ("Both Sides Now"), British folk ("Sunny Goodge Street," "In My Life"), and gospel ("Amazing Grace") clearly show her eclecticism. Some of the record's finest moments are from her exquisite 1968 album Who Knows Where the Time Goes (such as that album's title track and the aforementioned "Someday Soon"). This anthology brings the "best-of" collection to a new art form.

Trust Your Heart is an album by Judy Collins, released in 1987 by Gold Castle. The album liner notes credit Judy Collins with "overall production".[1] It was released simultaneously with her autobiography of the same name. It is composed of seven of the 16 songs from an album she made for the British label, Telstar, titled Amazing Grace. In addition, she recorded two original songs, Trust Your Heart, and The Life You Dream, as well as a cover of Moonfall from the 1985 Broadway musical, Drood, aka "The Mystery of Edwin Drood".

Running for My Life is Judy Collins' 15th album for Elektra Records (not counting three compilations) in 19 years, and by now the 40-year-old singer knows what she wants in putting together an LP, which may help explain why this is her first album on which she alone is credited as producer. She still retains her affection for traditional folk music, which she demonstrates with a version of "Bright Morning Star." She continues to champion songwriters whose work she helped to popularize in the past, here taking another pass at Jacques Brel's "Marieke" and, as she had with Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns," bringing the Broadway composer's work into the pop realm by performing both "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" and "Pretty Women" from his 1979 Broadway musical Sweeney Todd. Another songwriter she has called attention to recently is Hugh Prestwood, and she sings his "Almost Free," which, with Larry Gatlin's "I've Done Enough Dyin' Today," shows her continuing affinity for country music.

If the artists who enjoyed success during the folk music boom of the early '60s, very few have had a career as long and varied as Judy Collins, in large part because she's displayed a stylistic range matched by few of her peers. While Collins is a gifted songwriter who penned a few of her best songs, including "Since You Asked," "My Father," and "Secret Gardens," it's her talent and versatility as an interpretive vocalist that has brought her lasting success.

Bread and Roses was a 1976 album by Judy Collins that attempted to merge the singer's political convictions with the commercial success of the previous year's Judith. Political statements like the title song, originally a poem by James Oppenheim commonly associated with a 1912 garment workers strike in Lawrence, Massachusetts, were balanced with such pop compositions as Elton John's "Come Down in Time", but the album failed to achieve the commercial success of Judith.
