This three-disc retrospective contains eight never-before-available tracks, twenty b-sides, live and soundtrack cuts and twelve top 40 hits, including "Whenever I Call You Friend."
The California girl who wanted to be a Welsh witch has always been best when her mysticism and mooniness has been offset by harder-headed collaborators. Though this box set doesn't include the Fleetwood Mac stuff that made her name, it does pull together curious stuff she's done elsewhere: pre-Mac work with Lindsey Buckingham from the Buckingham Nicks days, duets with the likes of Tom Petty and Don Henley, and a few soundtrack numbers. The first two discs have everything worth saving from her five solo albums (actually, one disc would have done that too, though "Edge of Seventeen" appears in a live version rather than the hit), plus some B-sides, and the third has rarities and obscurities, including an enlightening demo of "Rhiannon." –Douglas Wolk

There's a good reason why the Move's eponymous 1968 debut album sounds like the work of two or three different bands – actually, befitting a band with multiple lead singers, there's more than one reason. First, there's that lead singer conundrum. Carl Wayne was the group's frontman, but Roy Wood wrote the band's original tunes and sometimes took the lead, and when the group covered a rock & roll class, they could have rhythm guitarist Trevor Burton sing (as they did on Eddie Cochran's "Weekend") or drummer Bev Bevan (as they did on the Coasters' "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart"). Such ever-changing leads can lend excitement but it can also lend confusion, especially when the group enthusiastically mixes up Who-inspired art pop with three-chord rock & roll oldies and more than a hint of British eccentricity.

Recorded in October 2007, just over half a month after the release of her hits collection Crystal Visions, The Soundstage Sessions finds Stevie Nicks running through her hits – both solo and Fleetwood Mac tunes – in front of a small studio audience. This performance, which was also released simultaneously as a DVD, is suitably intimate and respectful of Nicks' original recordings, right down to how "Stand Back" and "If Anyone Falls in Love" are slathered in synthesizers that overwhelm the otherwise subdued arrangements. This fidelity isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the performance has a tight West Coast studio pro feel (a vibe partially achieved by Waddy Wachtel's presence as a co-producer) and Nicks is in good form, never pushing too hard, never straining, always sounding assured even when she's navigating through the gentle misogyny of Dave Matthews' "Crash."

A Scottish band with a crush on all things McCartney. Kirkcaldy McKenzie and the Famous Groupies are a kind of a mystery group and are heavily influenced by McCartney and Wings. "We are delighted to announce that our fourth and ultimately final album has been unleashed upon this world. We have spent these past 8 months working away on these 15 (technically 16) songs, and fruition has arrived. We set you free, Chameleon sessions…"

The majority of these mixes have never been reissued in any format, and have never before been digitized. The 1980s was of course the decade the 12" single came into it's own. Compiled by writer David Nichols (former Australian Smash Hits features editor in the '80s, co-author of Pop Life: Inside Smash Hits Australia and author of Dig: Australian Rock and Pop Music 1960-85.

The Undertones slam-bang punk-pop drew its strength from one simple fact: you didn't need a secret handshake to enjoy it. John and Damian O'Neill mated infectious guitar hooks to '60s garage, '70s glam rock, and Feargal Sharkey's signature vocal quaver. Those qualities came together on their breakout hit "Teenage Kicks," whose simplicity harked back to '60s ideals of when the song was king. This Anthology showcases the very best of The Undertones & includes 27 previously unreleased demos, alternate takes, session & live tracks.

The album runs from the beginnings of hard rock in the late 60s (Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly) through the mid-70s (Dr Feelgood, Hawkwind) via punk from the UK (The Damned, The Stranglers) and the US (Ramones, Richard Hell & The Voidoids) to new wave (Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Television). There's also space for eighties US metal (Faith No More, Skid Row), UK alternative rock (Echo & The Bunnymen, The Jesus & Mary Chain) and tracks from the new romantic artists that were inspired by New Wave (A Flock Of Seagulls, The Associates) alongside British rockers from the 90s and 00s (The Darkness, Terrorvision). 23 Tracks of Remastered Early Singles, Demos, and Live Recordings with 28-Page Full Color Booklet. What we have here are home and field recordings of The dB's. Most of these tracks predate the release of Stands For deciBels by two to three years and were the basis of the signing of the band to Albion Records (UK) in 1980. Some songs are being released to the public for the first time in this package.
Now, almost thirty years after a number of these tracks first saw the light of day on Rhino Records, we find ourselves in the position of releasing the earliest of these selections from our archives to a whole new audience. The live recordings were found after months of Chris sifting through a trove of ancient cassettes, and we are glad to be able to include these key songs from those early years.

Tom Petersson left Cheap Trick following the George Martin-produced All Shook Up, and the band was somewhat left in a lurch, recording 1982’s One on One largely without a bassist; eventual replacement Jon Brant is on record and on the cover, but he’s obscured by a picture of Rick Nielsen, possibly because the guitarist handled the bulk of the basslines on the LP. In any case, One on One finds Cheap Trick rebounding from Martin with a slick, punchy, AOR record, hemmed in a bit by stiff sequenced rhythms – you can almost feel Bun E. Carlos straining against the metronome – but sparkling in its analog synths and pumped-up guitars. No, it’s not as ballsy as Cheap Trick’s best, but its glossy glimmer is appealing, a combination of heavy metal roar and new wave strut, and would be more so if the songs were just a bit tighter.
