Originally founded in 1969 by former Crazy World of Arthur Brown organist Vincent Crane, Atomic Rooster recorded five albums between 1969 & 1973 and enjoyed two hit singles with the tracks ‘Tomorrow Night’ and ‘Devil’s Answer’ in 1970 and 1971 respectively. The band line-up varied from album to album, but it was generally recognised that the “classic” line-up of the band featured Vincent Crane joined by John Du Cann (guitar, vocals) and Paul Hammond (drums) that existed between 1970 – 1971.

Nice 'n' Greasy is the fifth studio album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. It is the only album to include John Goodsall on guitars after the departure of Steve Bolton the previous year. The album failed to chart and the band was dropped from Dawn Records which led to Vincent Crane eventually disbanding the band in 1975 after a tour. The band would enter a hiatus until reforming in 1980. In the US, the record was issued on Elektra in a different sleeve (pictured) to most territories and retitled Atomic Rooster IV, as their first album, Atomic Roooster (1970), failed to secure a US release. The US album also had a somewhat different track list to the UK version. The German release Nice & Greasy followed the US track listing, but with a phallic art sleeve. It was further reissued in Germany in 1977, this time in yet another new sleeve and retitled This is Atomic Rooster Vol. 2.

Made in England is the fourth album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. Although previously known for generally having a progressive rock style, this album saw the band moving in more of a funk/soul direction, largely influenced by new singer Chris Farlowe. Apart from founder member Vincent Crane, the album was recorded by an entirely different lineup to that of the band's prior effort, In Hearing of Atomic Rooster. Previous members John Du Cann and Paul Hammond had departed in protest at Crane's intended new musical direction.

In Hearing of is the third album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. Although not included on the album, "The Devil's Answer" single was released just prior to it, becoming the band's highest chart success at number 4 in the UK. This helped push the album to a number 18 UK chart placing, despite the fact that the four musicians pictured on the inside cover never played together. The backing tracks (and some vocals) were recorded by Vincent Crane, John Cann and Paul Hammond, but Cann and Hammond left the group soon after vocalist Pete French was drafted in. The finished album's sound was dominated by Crane and Hammond, with many of Cann's guitar parts either not used or placed lower in the mix. In addition, many of the songs were written by Crane, along with his first wife, Pat Darnell.

Death Walks Behind You is the second studio album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. It was their first album to receive US release, albeit in a different sleeve. It is commonly thought of as the archetypal Atomic Rooster album, recorded by the 'classic' line-up of Vincent Crane, John Du Cann and Paul Hammond. It is certainly, critically and commercially, their most successful album and often hailed as a classic of the progressive rock genre. It also produced the hit single "Tomorrow Night" (UK #11), which became one of the band's best-known songs. The album's cover features the William Blake monotype Nebuchadnezzar.

The incipient incarnation of Atomic Rooster – with Vincent Crane (organ/vocals), Nick Graham (vocals/bass), and Carl Palmer (drums) – was together just long enough to document its debut, Atomic Roooster (1970) – (note: the extra O is intentional). Prior to the last-minute addition of Graham – the only bassist Atomic Rooster ever had – the band emerged from the remnants of the then recently defunct Crazy World of Arthur Brown. The material was primarily courtesy of Crane and consisted of heavier sides. His versatility is evident throughout the impressive array of styles ranging from the folk-inspired pastoral "Winter" to the bluesy horn arrangement heard on "Broken Wings."

Coming out of the ashes of the Crazy World of Arthur Browne, Atomic Rooster always had the reputation of being an early progressive rock band. In many ways, they do not really fit into that progressive rock label, coming across as a lot more straightforward and less adventurous than many of that ilk. However, they really did present a very unique sound that seemed to build on the strangeness of Brown's outfit while infusing it with a more serious tone. This compilation includes quite a few killer cuts from the group's career. Seeming to be a good introduction to the sound of this outfit.

Live and Raw 70/71 is a live album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. It consists of two short concerts, specially-staged at the BBC's Paris Theatre in 1970 and 1971. The original BBC master tapes of these concerts are now lost, and the source was an old tape, belonging to John Du Cann, of a very poor quality off-air recording. Nonetheless, the album is important to Atomic Rooster fans, as there are very few surviving live recordings of the first two lineups of the band.

Atomic Rooster are a British rock band originally formed by members of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, organist Vincent Crane and drummer Carl Palmer. Their history is defined by two periods: the early-mid-1970s and the early 1980s. The band went through radical style changes, but they are best known for the hard, progressive rock sound of their hit singles, "Tomorrow Night" (UK No. 11) and "Devil's Answer" (UK No. 4), both in 1971. In 2016 Atomic Rooster reformed with permission from Crane's widow, with the new line-up featuring two members from the various 1970s incarnations of the band.
