We present Joan Baez' first 3 albums dating from 1960, 1961 and 1962, 2 studio and her legendary first live record. Joan still performs tracks from these in her sets today. Also included are several other recordings Baez made in 1959 which turned out to be her first released songs, she is largely solo but also include duets with Bill Wood and Ted Alevizos.

On January 27th, 2016, Joan Baez celebrated her 75th birthday with a historic performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The special event honored her legendary 50-plus years in music in an intimate, career-spanning live performance. Baez performed alongside fellow artists and friends, including: David Bromberg, Jackson Browne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Judy Collins, David Crosby, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Damien Rice, Paul Simon, Mavis Staples, Nano Stern and Richard Thompson.

In the early 60s Baez represented the popular face of folk music, touring and singing at political events. She championed the work of Bob Dylan, her choice of material gradually moving away from traditional folk towards more politically aware work. Baez recorded for Vanguard for 12 years, from 1960 until 1972. This compilation includes all her hits, both British and American, from that period.

Pure… Singer/Songwriter is a brave album that showcases strong song writing, sometimes by avoiding the artists most prominent work in lieu of a lesser known piece. Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Lou Reed, Bob Marley, Van Morrison, George Michael and Bruce Hornsby are all represented by one of their better known tracks. However, Bowie, Hall & Oates, Alicia Keys, Nillson and even Sarah Bareilles are represented but obscure tracks. As well as the well known artists this compilation also goes back to includes lesser known artists from the 60s and 70s such as Colin Blunstone, Laura Nyro and Phoebe Snow.

The Essential Joan Baez/From the Heart[Live], released primarily in Asia, is a single-CD abridgement of the Joan Baez album From Every Stage, recorded at concerts held in July and August 1975 and initially issued as a double-LP by A&M Records in January 1976. The original version contained 20 tracks and ran over 80 minutes, just a little too long for one CD; this one contains 15 tracks and runs a little over an hour. Baez's performances of "(Ain't Gonna Let Nobody) Turn Me Around," "Blessed Are," "Stewball," "Natalia," and "Joe Hill" have been jettisoned, and the remaining tracks have been re-sequenced, with the first ten described as "the electric tracks" even though they include the a cappella "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and the last five "the acoustic tracks." The new sequencing takes what was the end of the concert and puts it at the beginning, so that, oddly, Baez performs "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and then bids her audience good night after what, here, is only the first song! Still, the album contains excellent performances of many Baez staples, including five Bob Dylan songs, played by an accomplished backup band that includes famed Motown bass player James Jamerson, drummer Jim Gordon, and keyboard player David Briggs. Of course, the full-length version in its original sequence is preferred.

Farewell, Angelina is the sixth studio album by folk icon, Joan Baez. Originally released in 1965, the album peaked at #10 on the Billboard 200. Featuring traditional folk standards alongside tracks written by Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and more, No Depression hailed the album as “perhaps the finest sounding folk record ever.”

A unique fable of American life from the 1950s to the 80s, the film blends comedy, drama, war, romance and groundbreaking special effects into a social and political portrait of the passing years, all seen through the eyes of the intellectually challenged but immensely likeable Forrest Gump. The soundtrack is a double album featuring 31 classic pop tunes plus a suite from Alan Silvestri's rich orchestral music, represented more completely on the companion score album.

First released in 1960, the debut album from the legend that is Joan Baez was met with massive success upon its release. Presented here in its completion, the record has remained pertinent and sounds anything but dated half a century after it was recorded. Paired with this masterpiece is Joan's 'real' first record, 'Folksingers Round Harvard Square' a set of songs she recorded with friends from the Cambridge, MA folk scene in 1959. These historic recordings serve as an introduction to Baez's very earliest work, but also remain fresh, exciting and an enormously enjoyable album.

For the compilers of Time-Life Music's Singers & Songwriters series, which – more or less – chronicles the 1970s singer/songwriter movement, the 24-month period 1970-1971 marked the real birth of that trend, with the popular emergence of such defining figures as James Taylor, Carole King, Carly Simon, John Denver, and Cat Stevens, all of whom had their first big hits in the style included here.

With the exception of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez was the most important artist to rise from the folk music movement that first blossomed in the late 1950s and early '60s. Baez was also the finest and most influential interpretive singer in contemporary folk; blessed with a soprano voice of uncommon clarity, her performances were emotionally compelling without resorting to histrionics.

Despite her Latin heritage, Joan Baez probably wouldn't have been encouraged by her 1960s record label, the New York-based independent Vanguard, to sing an entire album in Spanish. At A&M Records, the Los Angeles firm co-founded by Herb Alpert that she joined in the early '70s, however, it would have been a different story, and it was A&M that released Gracias a la Vida ("Here's to Life") in 1974. Baez demonstrates an affinity for Mexican folk music on such obvious choices as "Cucurrucucu Paloma," but it's no surprise that, a year after the assassination of leading nueva canción folksinger Victor Jara in a military coup in Chile, an atrocity that shocked the American folk community, she has not backed away from her political commitments…
