Boston's Quill performed at the original 1969 Woodstock festival and because of it, Atlantic Records' founder Ahmet Ertegun decided to sign them, in part because they would be releasing the soundtrack album to the festival. Ertegun not only signed them to Atlantic-subsidiary Cotillion but the band chose to producer the album on their own. Sadly, the band didn't gain any recognition from Woodstock since they were not in the documentary film or on the soundtrack. But this 1970 album is what they left behind. This is an illegal pressing allegedly released in Russia in 2017 on the Synton label.

Boston is the debut studio album by American rock band Boston. The album's style, often referred to as the "Boston sound", was developed through Scholz's love of classical music, melodic hooks and guitar-heavy rock groups such as the Kinks and the Yardbirds. The album was released by Epic in August 1976 and sold extremely well, breaking sales records and becoming one of the best-selling debut albums of all time. Boston's style was appropriated by label executives and imitated by bands to create radio-friendly "corporate rock", the creation of which the band was also accused. The album's singles, most notably "More Than a Feeling" and "Long Time", were both AM and FM hits, and nearly the entire album receives constant rotation on classic rock radio.

After rushing their second album Don't Look Back, Boston took eight years to complete the album Third Stage. The long delay is even more surprising considering that their sound didn't change at all; even though only songwriter/guitarist Tom Scholz and vocalist Brad Delp remained from the original lineup, they were the ones responsible for Boston's sound…

Because of the rise of disco and punk, FM rock radio seemed all but dead until the rise of acts like Boston, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen. Nearly every song on Boston's debut album could still be heard on classic rock radio decades later due to the strong vocals of Brad Delp and unique guitar sound of Tom Scholz…
